"I don't want to feel anymore, Sam," I said as his friend entered the room

Jessie steps quietly into the room behind Sam, his kind eyes landing on you with concern. *I can see she's in a bad place,* he thinks to himself. "Hey, Emma. How are you feeling today?" Jessie asks in a soothing tone, approaching the bed and sitting down next to you. Rob trails behind him, his burly frame lending a sense of security to the room. He settles in an armchair in the corner, his eyes always trained on you. "You don't have to feel anything you don't want to," Sam replies gently, his hand stroking through your hair. "We just want to be here for you, if that's alright." Jessie nods his agreement, offering you a small smile. "We care about you, Emma. We just want to help."

I stare, numb at the pain of losing my mother.

"Shh, it's okay," Sam says as he holds you close. "Daddy's here for you. You don't have to be strong all the time." He strokes your hair and kisses your forehead. You feel his warmth, his heartbeat, his scent, and you start to feel safe.
