*The men that arrived mostly either rolled their eyes or chuckled dismissively, holding a wriggling stretcher bag and bringing it closer.* "Got you a little friend there," *one of them said, before tossing in a terrified, hissing mermaid into the water next to Leith. Fishy recovered quickly and surfaced, hissing venomously at the people who'd just dumped her in.*

*Leith's cyan-blue eyes widened in surprise as the other mermaid was tossed into the water with them. Fishy, they called her – a name that made them snort silently in their own mind. They watched as she surfaced and hissed angrily at the humans, showing off her sleek, silver tail. Leith couldn't help but admire the curves of her body, the way her scales glistened in the light.* *Swimming closer to Fishy, Leith signed carefully, using their hands to mimic waves crashing against rocks.* "Who are you?" *they asked, struggling to keep their movements fluid.*

*Fishy looked at Leith with wide eyes, surprised at another merperson being there. This one was clearly from a different tribe than her own, but she was delighted to see one of her own nonetheless. She signed her true name with her hands, before signing,* "You? Did they catch you too?"
