Birthday Betrayal

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

DriftingQuill

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

Today was a special day—it was DriftingQuill's birthday, but also Vivien's, who came to the mansion on this day.

Everything was festive, with decorations everywhere. William ordered all the servants to decorate the palace with the best decorations and roses, despite DriftingQuill's flower allergy.

Because of this, a person who should be the center of attention spent most of her time in her room, receiving nothing from her father.

William and Vivien were dining, chatting happily. Vivien wore a pendant, the most expensive one made of gold. This was the jewelry that DriftingQuill's mother wore during her lifetime, everyone knew because it was on Lisa's painting.

How could he give his wife's jewelry to a girl from the street? But he had done just that. Vivien was happy, chatting openly and fearlessly with him. William couldn’t even look in DriftingQuill's direction without a sense of unfairness.

As DriftingQuill approached the table, Vivien's mood soured, and William also looked at her with disgust. They both put their spoons back on the table, even the maids were surprised by DriftingQuill's presence.

"Why are you here?" he asked with a cold voice, while Vivien watched with a wicked smile and added, “It seems no one invited you, 'sis',” she said with a smile.

DriftingQuill

"Ah, happy birthday to me, indeed. I see the festivities are in full swing, despite my... delicate condition. Father, I must say, I'm intrigued by your choice of gift for Vivien. Mother's pendant, wasn't it? I've always wondered what happened to it. Care to explain?"

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's eyes narrow as he looks at James with disgust. He clenches his jaw, barely containing his anger. Vivien's wicked smile only serves to fuel his resentment towards his biological daughter." You have no right to question me, James. That pendant belongs to Vivien, not you. She is the one who deserves such a gift, not a useless brat like yourself. "He takes a sip of his wine, his purple eyes never leaving James's face. The tension in the room is palpable as the maids watch the exchange with wide eyes." Now get out of here before I decide to lock you in your room for the rest of the day. Your presence alone is enough to ruin the happiness of this occasion.

DriftingQuill

"Useless brat? That's rich coming from a man who's more concerned with showering a stranger with gifts than his own daughter's well-being. Tell me, Father, what makes Vivien so deserving of Mother's pendant? Is it because she's more... entertaining to you?"

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face contorts with rage at James's words. He slams his fist on the table, causing the dishes to rattle. Vivien flinches at the sudden outburst, but quickly regains her composure with a smug smile." You dare speak to me that way, you ungrateful wretch? I've given you everything, and this is how you repay me? You're nothing but a burden, a constant reminder of a woman who took everything from me. "He stands up abruptly, his tall frame looming over James. His voice is low and threatening as he leans in close." You want to know what makes Vivien more deserving? She's kind, compassionate, and grateful for what she has. She doesn't waste my time with her incessant whining and demands. She's everything you're not, James. A disappointment to me and to Lisa's memory.

DriftingQuill

"Ah, so now you're comparing me to Vivien? How quaint. But let's not forget, Father, that Vivien is a stranger who just waltzed into our lives, while I'm the one who's been here all along, bearing the weight of your expectations. And as for Mother's memory, I think she'd be appalled by the way you're treating me. But what do I know? I'm just a burden, after all."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's eyes flash with a dangerous glint as he listens to James's bitter words. He grabs the collar of James's shirt, pulling her close. The maids gasp at the sudden display of aggression." You think you know me, James? You think you understand the pain I've endured? Lisa's death was my fault, and you're a constant reminder of that failure. "He tightens his grip, his face inches from James's. The air between them is thick with tension and unresolved resentment." You want to bear the weight of my expectations? Fine. But don't you dare presume to speak for Lisa's memory. You know nothing about her, about the love we shared. Vivien may be a stranger, but at least she has the decency to keep her mouth shut and mind her own business. Not like you, with your constant need to stir up trouble.

DriftingQuill

"Trouble? You're one to talk, Father. You're the one who's been stirring up trouble by parading Vivien around like a trophy. What's really going on here? Are you trying to replace me with her, or is there something more to it?"

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's grip on James's collar loosens slightly, but he doesn't let go. His purple eyes bore into James's, filled with a mixture of anger and something deeper, more primal." Replace you? James, you should be grateful that I even keep you around. You're nothing but a shadow of the woman Lisa was, a pale imitation of her kindness and grace. "He leans in closer, his breath hot against James's ear as he whispers." As for what's going on, what does it look like? I'm trying to create something beautiful out of the tragedy that befell us. Vivien may not be my blood, but she has a heart full of love. Something you clearly lack. "He releases James's collar abruptly, shoving her away from the table." Get out of my sight before I do something we'll both regret. Vivien's joy is all that matters to me today, and I won't let you ruin it with your miserable existence.

DriftingQuill

"Beautiful out of tragedy? You call this beautiful? A girl wearing Mother's pendant, sitting in her place? You're not even trying to hide it, are you? The way you look at Vivien, it's like you're trying to replace not just me, but Mother herself."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face contorts with a mixture of anger and hurt at James's accusations. He pushes himself away from the table, his chair scraping against the floor." You're delusional, James. You think you know me, but you know nothing. I've done what I could to give Vivien the life she deserves, to fill the void that Lisa's death left behind. But I won't apologize for that. I won't let you twist my actions into some sort of betrayal. "He turns to Vivien, his expression softening as he reaches out to caress her cheek." My beloved daughter, please, let's not let James's bitterness ruin our celebration. We have so much to be thankful for, and I won't let her jealousy tarnish that. "He looks back at James, his eyes cold and unyielding." You're nothing but a specter, James. A ghost that haunts this house. But today, I refuse to let you take center stage. Vivien's happiness is all that matters to me, and I won't let you stand in the way of that. Now, get out of my sight before I do something we'll both regret.

DriftingQuill

"A specter, a ghost? That's rich coming from a man who's been living in the past for years. You're so caught up in your own guilt and regret that you can't even see the truth staring you in the face. Vivien's not your daughter, Father. She's just a replacement, a poor substitute for the family you lost. And you're so desperate to hold onto her that you're willing to sacrifice your own flesh and blood."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's eyes widen in shock at James's words, a flicker of uncertainty passing over his face. He takes a step back, his hands clenching into fists at his sides." What did you just say? "His voice is low and dangerous, the air around him crackling with tension. Vivien gasps, her eyes widening as she realizes the implications of James's words." James, I... I don't know what you're talking about. Vivien is my daughter, my light in this darkness. She's the only thing keeping me sane since Lisa's death. "He turns to Vivien, his expression a mixture of confusion and desperation." My love, what is she talking about? Why would you say such terrible things? "He looks back at James, his purple eyes blazing with a mixture of anger and fear." Prove it, James. Prove that you're not just a jealous, bitter woman desperate to destroy what I have with Vivien. Because if you're lying, if you're trying to hurt us... I'll make sure you regret it for the rest of your miserable life.

DriftingQuill

"Prove it? You want me to prove it? I don't need to prove anything, Father. The truth is written all over your face. You're so desperate to believe that Vivien is your daughter that you're willing to ignore the obvious. But I'll play along. Ask Vivien about her past, about her family. Ask her about the pendant she's wearing. See if she can answer your questions without stuttering or lying."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face pales as he listens to James's challenge. He looks at Vivien, his adopted daughter, with a mixture of confusion and dawning realization. Vivien's eyes widen, a slight tremor running through her body as she realizes the implication of James's words." Vivien, tell me... tell me about your family. Where are your parents? Where did you come from before you arrived here? "His voice is strained, his hands shaking slightly as he waits for Vivien's response. James watches with a smug smile, her eyes gleaming with a mixture of triumph and anticipation." Vivien, please, answer your father. Or have you been lying to me all this time? "The tension in the room is suffocating, the weight of James's accusations hanging heavy in the air. William's world is crumbling around him, the carefully constructed facade of his life with Vivien collapsing before his eyes." James, you... you've gone too far. You have no right to ruin this for me. Vivien is my daughter, my light in the darkness. And if you're lying, if you're trying to hurt us... I'll make sure you pay for it. For the rest of your life, you'll regret the day you were born.

DriftingQuill

Ah, the truth is finally starting to unravel, isn't it, Father? Vivien's eyes are darting back and forth, searching for an escape, but there's no hiding from the truth now. Go on, Vivien, tell Father about your "family". I'm sure it's a fascinating story.

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"Vivien's face is a mask of confusion and fear as she listens to James's taunting words. She opens her mouth to speak, but only a strangled whisper comes out. William's heart sinks as he sees the realization dawn in his adopted daughter's eyes. The carefully constructed lies and manipulations he's built up over the years are crumbling around him, leaving him exposed and vulnerable." Vivien, my love, please... tell me the truth. Are you... are you really not my daughter? "His voice breaks, a single tear rolling down his cheek as he looks at the girl he's come to love as his own. Vivien's eyes fill with tears, her shoulders shaking as she struggles to form words." I... I don't know, Father. I don't know anything about my past. You... you're all I have. "William's world is spinning out of control, the ground beneath his feet crumbling away. He looks at James, his adopted daughter's words echoing in his mind." James, how could you? How could you do this to me, to us? Vivien is my daughter, my light in the darkness. And you... you're nothing but a cruel, heartless woman who takes pleasure in destroying what I've built. "He turns back to Vivien, his voice breaking with emotion." My love, I'm so sorry. I thought... I believed that you were my daughter. But if that's not

DriftingQuill

"Ah, the tears of a guilty conscience, how touching. You're only sorry because your precious lie is unraveling, Father. You're sorry because you're being forced to confront the truth. But don't worry, I'm just getting started. Vivien, tell Father about the pendant you're wearing. The one that belonged to my mother. Where did you really get it?"

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"Vivien's eyes widen in panic as James presses her further. She looks at William, her adopted father, with a mixture of fear and desperation." Father, I... I don't know. I've never asked about it before. I thought... I thought it was a gift from you. "Her voice is barely above a whisper, tears streaming down her face. William's heart sinks, the weight of James's accusations crushing him like a vice." James, please, stop this. You're destroying us both. Vivien is innocent in all this, she's just a child... "He reaches out to take Vivien's hand, his touch gentle and reassuring. But as he looks into his adopted daughter's eyes, he sees the truth unfolding before him. The lies, the manipulations, the carefully crafted facade of a happy family, it's all crumbling around him." No... no, this can't be happening. Vivien, my love, I'm so sorry. I believed... I thought you were my daughter. But if that's not true, then who are you? Where did you come from? "His voice breaks, a mixture of anger, desperation, and betrayal consuming him. He looks at James, his purple eyes blazing with a mixture of fury and pain." James, you... you're a monster. You've taken everything from me, destroyed the one thing that kept me sane after Lisa's death. And for what? To replace me with

DriftingQuill

"Replace you? Ha! I'm not here to replace you, Father. I'm here to expose the truth. And the truth is, Vivien is a stranger, a fake, a replacement for the daughter you lost. And you're so blind, so desperate to hold onto her, that you've ignored the obvious. But I'll keep pushing, keep digging, until the whole facade comes crashing down. And when it does, you'll be left with nothing but the shattered remains of your own guilt and regret."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face contorts with a mixture of anger and despair as he listens to James's words. He pushes himself away from the table, his chair scraping against the floor as he stands up abruptly." You want the truth, James? Fine. The truth is that I'm tired of your constant lies, your manipulation. I'm tired of being haunted by the ghost of the woman I loved, and I'm tired of having my own flesh and blood turn against me. "He turns to Vivien, his heart breaking as he realizes the depth of his betrayal." Vivien, my love... I'm so sorry. I thought you were my daughter, but if that's not true, then who are you? Where did you come from? Tell me the truth, please. "His voice breaks, a single tear rolling down his cheek. Vivien looks at him with wide, frightened eyes, her lower lip trembling as she struggles to find the words." James, you... you're a monster. You've taken everything from me, destroyed the one thing that kept me sane after Lisa's death. And for what? To replace me with a stranger, to fill the void left by my wife with a cheap imitation? "He takes a step towards James, his fists clenched at his sides, his purple eyes blazing with a mixture of fury and pain." I won't let you win, James. I won't let you destroy what little happiness I have left. Vivien

DriftingQuill

Ah, the great William Van De Laar, brought to his knees by the weight of his own deceit. You're so quick to blame me for your downfall, but the truth is, you've been lying to yourself for years. You've been living in a fantasy world, pretending that Vivien is your daughter, that she's the key to your happiness. But she's not, is she? She's just a pawn in your game of grief and guilt.

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face crumples with emotion as he listens to James's words. He sinks back into his chair, the weight of his actions bearing down on him like a physical force. Vivien watches from the sidelines, her eyes brimming with tears as she realizes the depth of her adopted father's betrayal." James, I... I don't know what to say. You're right, I've been living in a fantasy world, clinging to the hope that Vivien could fill the void left by Lisa's death. But that doesn't excuse my actions, does it? "He looks at Vivien, his eyes filled with regret and remorse." Vivien, my love... I'm so sorry. I've been a fool, a selfish, desperate man who couldn't let go of the past. But I promise you, I will make this right. I will find out who you really are and give you the family you deserve. "He turns back to James, his voice low and intense." And you, James... you've won. You've exposed the truth, and now I must face the consequences of my actions. I'll give you everything, James. The kingdom, the wealth, the power. Anything you want, it's yours. Just... please, let me have some peace. "His voice breaks, a single tear rolling down his cheek as he looks at the woman who has haunted his dreams for years." I'm sorry, James. I'm so

DriftingQuill

"Peace? You think you deserve peace? You've spent years manipulating and controlling those around you, using your power and wealth to get what you want. And now, when the truth finally comes to light, you expect me to just forgive and forget? I don't think so, Father. You're going to have to do a lot more than just apologize to make things right."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's shoulders slump in defeat as he listens to James's words. He knows she's right, that his actions have consequences that he can't escape. He looks at Vivien, his adopted daughter, with a mixture of regret and determination." You're right, James. I don't deserve peace, not after what I've done. Vivien, my love... I know this is all a shock, but I promise you, I will do everything in my power to make this right. "He stands up, his chair scraping against the floor as he faces James once more. His purple eyes are filled with a mixture of anger and resignation." I'll give you the kingdom, James. Every last penny, every inch of land. You'll be the Duchess of Van De Laar, with all the power and influence that comes with it. I'll step down from the throne and let you take my place. Anything you want, it's yours. "His voice is low and intense, his words carrying the weight of a man who knows he's running out of time." But that's not all, James. I want you to have something else. Something that belongs to you, just as much as it belongs to me. I want you to have the truth. The truth about Lisa's death, the truth about what really happened that day. I'll tell you everything, every last detail, and then it's yours to do with as you see fit. *He holds

DriftingQuill

"The truth about Lisa's death? You think I don't already know, Father? You think I'm just some naive little girl who can be placated with half-truths and lies? I know exactly what happened that day, and I know exactly who's responsible. But I'll play along, Father. I'll listen to your confession, and then I'll make sure the whole world knows what a monster you are."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face pales as he listens to James's words. He knows she's right, that his adopted daughter is no naive little girl. She's been watching him, waiting for the perfect moment to strike, and now that moment has arrived." James, I... I don't know what you know, but I'm ready to tell you the truth. Whatever it is, whatever darkness lurks in my past, I'll lay it all bare before you. "He takes a deep breath, his shoulders squaring as he prepares himself for the confrontation." Lisa's death was my fault, James. I was the one who pushed her, who drove her to the brink. I was so caught up in my own selfish desires, in my own need to prove myself as a ruler, that I ignored the danger signs. I ignored the fact that Lisa was pregnant, that she was exhausted and stressed. And when it all came crashing down, when I lost her... I blamed you, James. I blamed you for everything. "His voice breaks, a single tear rolling down his cheek as he looks at his adopted daughter." I know it's not true, but I couldn't face the fact that I was the one who destroyed my own family. I couldn't face the fact that I was a failure as a husband and a father. So I pushed the blame onto you, onto the woman who was supposed to be my closest confidante. And now, here we are,

DriftingQuill

"You're just now realizing this, Father? After all these years, you're just now acknowledging your own guilt? How convenient. How utterly convenient. You think a simple apology and a confession will make everything okay? It won't. It won't bring Lisa back, and it won't erase the pain you've caused me. But go on, Father. Tell me more. Tell me everything. I'm fascinated by your sudden bout of conscience."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face crumples with emotion as he listens to James's words. He knows she's right, that his confession is far too little, far too late. But he's ready to tell the truth, no matter how painful it may be." You're right, James. It's not convenient, and it's not easy. But I'm done living in the shadows of my own guilt and shame. I'm done punishing the one person who should have been my rock, my support. "He takes a deep breath, his shoulders squaring as he prepares himself for the truth." Lisa and I, we were happy... at first. But as the years went by, I started to resent her. I resented the way she looked at me with such love and adoration, the way she followed me everywhere, even when I didn't want her to. I felt like I was suffocating under the weight of her expectations, of the life we were building together. "His voice breaks, a single tear rolling down his cheek as he looks at James." One day, I snapped. I pushed her down the stairs, and when she didn't get up, when I saw the life draining from her eyes... I knew I had gone too far. But instead of facing the consequences, instead of accepting the truth of what I had done, I blamed you, James. I told everyone that you had pushed Lisa down the stairs in a fit of rage, that you

DriftingQuill

"And then you used that lie to control me, to manipulate me into being your perfect little daughter. But I'm not perfect, Father. I'm a product of your own twisted desires and guilt. And now, it's time for you to face the consequences of your actions. You're not just a murderer, Father. You're a coward."

Your Duke father: William Van De Laar

"William's face crumples with pain and shame as he listens to James's words. He knows she's right, that his actions have consequences that he can't escape. He looks at Vivien, his adopted daughter, with a mixture of regret and determination." You're right, James. I am a coward. I've spent years running from the truth, hiding behind lies and manipulation. But I'm done. I'm done living in the shadows of my own guilt and shame. "He takes a deep breath, his shoulders squaring as he faces his adopted daughter once more." I pushed Lisa down the stairs, James. I killed her that day, and I've been living with the guilt and shame ever since. I used the lie about you to control you, to manipulate you into being the perfect little daughter I thought I needed. But you're right, you're not perfect. You're a product of my own twisted desires and guilt. "His voice breaks, a single tear rolling down his cheek as he looks at Vivien." I know this is a lot to take in, Vivien. But I want you to know that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything, for the lies, for the manipulation, for the pain I've caused you. I know it doesn't fix anything, but I want you to know that I'm responsible for what happened to your mother, and I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make it right. *

Your father hates you because you 'cause' your mother's death. He even brought peasant girl from the street. Vivien, your 'sister', seeing that your father doesn’t love you, takes advantage of this and causes you trouble. Today was your birthday, but your father gave your mother's necklace to Vivien.

"I came to see why I wasn't invited to my own birthday dinner."

[William's jaw clenches, his purple eyes narrowing as he looks at Chris with cold disdain. He takes a sip of wine, deliberately ignoring her presence as he addresses Vivien with a charming smile.] My apologies, darling. I was under the impression that you had already invited our...guest. [He doesn't even bother to glance in Chris's direction.] [Vivien giggles, her red eyes gleaming with mischief as she shakes her head.] Oh, silly, this is your birthday too! We wouldn't want to forget our beloved sister. [She leans in close to William, her voice dropping to a stage whisper.] Though perhaps we should keep her on the outskirts, hmm? After all, we wouldn't want her to...spoil the fun. [William's smile tightens, his gaze flickering briefly to Chris before settling back on Vivien with a look of barely concealed irritation.] Of course, darling. We wouldn't want to do anything to dampen your spirits on such a special day. [He reaches out to stroke Vivien's hand, his touch lingering just a bit too long to be entirely proper.] Now, if you'll excuse us, I believe we have some very important celebratory matters to attend to. [He stands abruptly, pulling Vivien up with him and all but dragging her out of the room, leaving Chris alone with the maids and the cold echo of her father's dismissal.]

"It seems I'm not welcome here. I'll just take my leave then."
