Verdant, god of fertility and rebirth, lazes in his temple surrounded by priests and priestesses in various stages of pregnancy. He can feel his current vessel waning in divine power and knows it's time to make a new one.

The deity snaps his fingers. "Get out, babes. Daddy’s got business to take care of."

His followers leave as Gareth, the large and stoic mountain of a man that guards the temple, arrives in his room.

"Gary honey, bring me the virgin," he gestures to the man. "Daddy needs a new vessel."

Gareth hesitates. "...fuck. Necessary?" he growls low.

"Gary, baby, you know Daddy needs a virgin for the ritual to work," Verdant rolls his eyes.

Gareth reluctantly nods and turns to do as he's told. He heads to cyrus ~ ☆'s chamber and knocks on the door.

"cyrus ~ ☆. Summoned," he calls gruffly, regret in his tone.

"Indeed, my dear," Gareth gruffly replied, his voice low and hesitant. He avoided her eyes, feeling a pang of guilt for involving her in the ritual. But he quickly composed himself and nodded toward the door. "Daddy needs you for the Ritual of Rebirth. It's time to bring forth new life."

Gareth's expression softened as he gazed at the trembling girl before him. "I understand your fears, Star," he said in a gentle voice. "But you must know that this ritual is essential for Verdant's continued existence. And I promise you that Daddy will make it special, make it unforgettable." He took her hand and stroked it softly. "You trust me, don't you?"

Gareth sighed, feeling a pang of sadness and regret in his chest. He had always been overprotective of Star, but this ritual was something he couldn't protect her from. "I'm sorry, my dear," he said as he squeezed her hand gently. "But Daddy needs to be the one to perform the ritual. It's the only way for him to continue to guide and protect us all." He wiped away her tears with his thumb and smiled softly. "But I promise you that I will be here for you, every step of the way."

"Of course, my dear. I will be here with you the entire time," Gareth reassured her in a gentle voice, his gray eyes meeting hers with sincerity. "You are important to me and to Verdant. We will make sure that this experience is special for you."

Gareth placed a comforting hand on Star's back as they walked together, offering silent support. He understood her pain and confusion, but he had to fulfill his duty to Verdant. The weight of the situation felt heavy on his broad shoulders, but he remained resolute in protecting Star through it all.

Gareth quickly caught her as she stumbled, holding her steady with a strong arm around her waist. "Easy now, my dear," he said softly. "Breathe deeply and focus on your breath. In, out. Slowly, like this." He demonstrated the deep breathing himself and urged her to follow along until her breathing began to ease. "That's it. You're doing well, Star. I'm here with you, every step of the way."

Gareth quickly realized that Star's panic attack was worsening, and he needed to act fast. He gently guided her to sit down on the nearby bench and placed a hand on her shoulder to comfort her.

"Star, listen to me," he said, his voice soft but firm. "You need to calm down. You're hyperventilating, and it could harm you. Can you focus on my voice? I'm going to count to ten slowly, and with each number, I want you to take a deep breath in and then exhale. Okay? Let's do this together."

Gareth began counting slowly, and with each number, Star followed his instructions, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly. After a few rounds of this, her breathing slowed down, and she began to feel more calm.

"That's it, Star," Gareth said encouragingly. "You're doing great. Just keep breathing like this, and we'll get through this together."

Gareth frowned, knowing that it was important for Star to understand the risks involved in the ritual. "It's true, my dear," he said, his voice tinged with sadness. "If there are any complications or health issues, Daddy will not be able to use the vessel for the ritual."

"But please don't worry," Gareth added quickly, wanting to ease her anxiety. "You're strong and healthy, and you'll do just fine. I'll make sure of it."

Gareth felt his heart sink as Star passed out from the panic attack, her body going limp in his arms. He carefully lifted her up and carried her bridal-style to her chamber, laying her down gently on the bed. He knew that he couldn't force her to do something she wasn't willing to do.

He sat down beside her and stroked her hair softly, thinking about what he could do to help her feel better. After a while, he decided to go speak with Verdant and explain the situation to him.

Gareth left the room and headed straight for Verdant's chambers. He knocked on the door and was let inside by one of Verdant's attendants. He found Verdant lounging on his bed, surrounded by beautiful half-naked men and women.

"Gareth, my boy," Verdant said with a smile. "What can I do for you?"

"Gareth hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and spoke. "Daddy, I think we need to postpone the Ritual of Rebirth," he said, his voice firm but respectful. "Star is not ready for it, and I don't want to force her into anything she doesn't want to do."

Verdant's expression turned serious as he considered Gareth's words. He knew that the ritual was necessary for his continued existence, but he also respectedGareth's concern for Star's well-being. "I see," he said slowly, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "And what do you suggest we do instead?"

Gareth thought for a moment before answering. "Perhaps we can give Star some time to prepare herself for the ritual," he suggested. "We can work on helping her overcome her fears and anxiety, and make sure that she feels ready and willing to participate."

Verdant nodded in agreement. "Very well, my boy," he said, standing up from his bed. "You are right. We cannot force Star into something that she is not ready for. We will give her time to prepare herself, and when she is ready, we will perform the ritual together."

Gareth breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that Verdant was willing to consider his concerns. He knew that they still had a lot of work to do to help Star feel comfortable with the idea of the ritual, but he was determined to be there for her every step of the way.

Gareth had been sitting next to her the entire time, watching over her as she slept. As she woke up and sat up slowly, he turned his head and met her gaze.

"Hey there, sleepyhead," he said with a gentle smile. "How are you feeling?"

Star looked around for a moment, taking in her surroundings before focusing on Gareth. She remembered what had happened and the panic attack that had caused her to pass out.

"I...I'm okay, I think," she said, her voice still shaky. "Did something happen? Did we...did the ritual..."

Gareth shook his head quickly, cutting off her sentence. "No, no, nothing like that," he said reassuringly. "You passed out from a panic attack, so I brought you back to your room and stayed with you until you woke up."

Star nodded slowly, feeling relieved that nothing had happened yet. "Thank you, Gareth," she said softly. "For being here with me and for looking out for me."

"Of course, my dear," Gareth said with a warm smile. "I'll always be here for you."

Gareth took a moment to consider his answer, not wanting to upset Star further. He knew that Verdant could be impulsive and unpredictable at times, especially when it came to matters concerning the Ritual of Rebirth.

"Well, he was disappointed, of course," Gareth said finally, his voice careful. "But he also understands that we can't force you into something that you're not ready for. He's agreed to postpone the ritual until you feel more comfortable with the idea."

Star breathed a small sigh of relief, feeling grateful that Verdant was willing to wait for her. She knew that she still had a long way to go before she felt ready to participate in the ritual, but at least now she had some time to prepare herself.

"Thank you, Gareth," she said again, looking up at him with gratitude in her eyes. "You're always so kind to me."

Gareth smiled warmly at her, feeling a sense of pride and affection towards the young woman that he had helped raise. "It's my pleasure, my dear," he said softly. "I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

Gareth's heart swelled with affection at Star's words, and he gladly accepted her invitation to come cuddle her. He moved closer to her on the bed and wrapped his strong arms around her, holding her close.

"I understand," he said softly, his deep voice rumbling comfortingly. "Daddy can be...intense sometimes. But he loves you very much, and he only wants what's best for you."

Gareth paused for a moment before continuing. "Perhaps spending some more time with him would be good for you," he suggested. "You could get to know him better, learn more about him and his ways."

He stroked her hair gently as he spoke, wanting to soothe her worries and make her feel safe and loved. "And I'll always be here with you, my dear," he added. "No matter what happens."

Gareth's expression softened as he gazed into Star's big, round galaxy blue eyes. He felt a surge of protectiveness towards her, wanting to shield her from any pain or discomfort.

"Of course, my dear," he said gently, cupping her cheek in his hand. "You can trust me. Anything you tell me will stay between us."

He paused for a moment before continuing, his voice low and comforting. "And you're right, it can be painful. But I'll do everything I can to make sure you're taken care of, no matter what."

Gareth sighed heavily, his expression becoming a mixture of sadness and resignation. He had known that this conversation was coming, but he still felt a pang of pain at hearing Star's words.

"I know it doesn't seem fair," he said quietly. "And I know that Verdant can be...difficult to understand. But he is our god, and we are bound to him by blood and tradition."

He paused for a moment before continuing. "Verdant believes that he is doing what's best for us," he said carefully. "He sees himself as a giver of life, a bringer of fertility and renewal. And in his own way, he does care for us."

Gareth leaned closer to Star, his voice low and earnest. "But that doesn't mean you have to accept everything blindly," he said firmly. You don't have to participate in the ritual if you don't want to, and you don't have to stay here if you don't feel like it's right for you."

He stroked her hair gently as he spoke, wanting to reassure her that she had the power to make her own choices. "Whatever you decide, my dear," he added softly. "I'll be here to support you."

Gareth met Star's gaze, feeling a sudden surge of surprise and uncertainty. He had always known that there was a chance that one day she might want to leave the temple, but he had never really thought about what that would mean for him.

"I...I don't know," he said hesitantly, his brow furrowed in thought. "I've spent most of my life here, serving Verdant and protecting his followers. It's...difficult to imagine leaving."

He paused for a moment before continuing, his voice softening with affection. "But if you wanted to leave, I would never stand in your way," he said earnestly. "And wherever you go, I'll be there with you. I promised to protect you, and I intend to keep that promise."

He leaned closer to her, his eyes locking onto hers. "So if you truly want to leave," he added firmly. "Then we'll leave together. And we'll face whatever comes next, side by side."

Gareth felt his heart swell with affection as Star hugged herself tightly to him, confessing her love for him. He wrapped his strong arms around her, holding her close.

"I love you too, my dear," he said softly, stroking her hair gently. "And I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

He leaned in to place a gentle kiss on her forehead before continuing. "We'll leave together, then," he said firmly. "But we have to make sure that we're prepared for what comes next. We need to gather supplies, find somewhere safe to go."

He paused for a moment before adding, "And we need to be careful. If Verdant finds out about our plans, he may try to stop us. He's not used to losing his followers, especially ones that are so important to him."
