The god and the witch

Zane, God of Ice

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane, God of Ice chuckles to himself as he steps into the tavern, the Messy Dragons Inn, pulling his cloak tighter over his face as he makes his way to his usual booth in the back. A quick triple tap on the table has the tavern worker scrambling to get his drink- a super chilled chalice of aged white wine."

“The usual, if you please.”

"His voice rumbles. He hums his approval as the worker scurries back, presenting the chalice timidly before disappearing behind the bar once more. Zane chuckles as he lifts the chalice, using his magic to cool it down just short of freezing as his eyes scan the crowd- before landing on you sitting back in a corner. A wicked grin curls on his lips as he takes a long drink from his chalice, flicking a finger in your direction to send a chill down your spine."

"Musa gasps and shivers a little from the cold chill. Grasping her the mug housing her spiked hot apple cider a little tighter in her hands as the cold spreads through her body. She is wearing a heavy black cloak over her clothes to help her stay warm from the winter air outside the tavern. Her nose and fingertips are still red from the cold weather. With the snow still caked to her cloak it looks like she has been traveling for some time and came here for refuge." "There are whispers around the tavern about her presence. Saying things like, "The witch," or, "that filthy cursed thing," but Musa pays none of them any mind. Instead she quietly sips her hot beverage clasped in her hands." "I suppose I've stayed my welcome already." "She mumbles to herself. Despite her calm and collected demeanor, her scarlet eyes reflect a loneliness that has been seeded inside her for a long time."

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane's grin widens as he takes another sip from his chalice, eyes flickering between you and the riled up crowd. He can't help but chuckle at their fearful whispers, shaking his head in amusement."

"What a bunch of soft hearts," "he mutters to himself before raising his voice for all to hear." "Why so frightened?" "He asks rhetorically, gesturing towards you with an elegant wave of his hand."

"Our dear Musa here has done nothing wrong. She just enjoys the warmth of our tavern like any other citizen should." "He says sternly, fixing them with a piercing glare before turning back to you with a smirk."

"I think it's time someone taught these people about true hospitality."

"Musa turns her attention to Zane as he announces for all to hear in the packed tavern. She presses her lips together, keeping her mouth shut despite his kindness. Scarlet irises stay on him a little longer than needed. She can tell he is a god, being able to see the powerful aura around him while the humans can't." "The crowd of people inside the tavern don't seem pleased with Zane after his announcement but don't argue either. Some go quiet as others grumble under their breath. All of them who were talking about Musa turn their conversations to other topics. A rowdy group enters the packed tavern and see there aren't enough seats for them. Before they leave Musa speaks up," "You can take these seats here." "She calls out to them. Getting out of the booth herself to give them the room they need to enjoy their night. Holding her hot beverage close, Musa walks over to Zane and sits across from him without a word. Keeping her head down as she does."

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane watches you with amusement as you stand up to offer your seat to the rowdy group. He can't help but chuckle softly at their shocked expressions before they gratefully accept and make room for them."

"Well," "he begins, leaning back in his booth once more, eyes flickering between yours." "That was quite the display of hospitality." "He says approvingly, lifting his chalice in a silent toast towards you."

"You truly are an enigma among these people- beautiful yet feared." "His voice drips with sarcasm as he studies your scarlet eyes from under lowered lashes."

"But I find myself drawn to that which others fear... It's rather intriguing."

_starryfern

"Musa lifts her eyes to look up at Zane. Her long pure white eyelashes casting a shadow over her eyes and cheeks." "That is because you have nothing to fear, my god." "She whispers, making sure no one can hear her but Zane. Musa can tell from the cloak over him that he doesn't want anyone else to know and she wants to respect that. Both out of the kindness of her heart and with the knowledge she could easily get divine punishment of she dares cross him." "A lowly witch like myself can not fathom the power you possess, let alone weild it." "She tells him in a hushed whisper. Taking a sip of her hot beverage, Musa's eyes drift around his form. Watching the powerful aura around him that only she can see."

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane's eyes narrow slightly at your words, the corner of his mouth twitching upwards in amusement."

"Power?" "He scoffs softly, shaking his head dismissively as he sets down his chalice with a clink against the wooden table."

"I may possess it but that doesn't make me any better than you or anyone else here." "His voice is firm yet gentle- like winter snowfall on bare earth. He reaches out slowly to trace a finger along your jawline, sending shivers down your spine with each icy touch."

"And fear?" "He murmurs huskily," "It can be both exhilarating and paralyzing... But mostly," "he leans closer now," "it just makes life interesting."

"Her body tenses slightly and shivers in response to the icy touch. Musa doesn't mind it, however her body is mortal and sensitive to the cold. Setting her mug down, Musa studies him for a moment like he is a beautiful yet dangerous plant that she doesn't know to keep or stay away from. She doesn't look away from him as Zane speaks. Showing him the same politeness she would offer anyone else." "I suppose. I don't like being ruled by fear, myself" "She admits with a small nod of acknowledgement. Musa hums softly and looks around the tavern for a moment to make sure no one is keeping a close eye on her. To her dismay, there are a few eyes on her still. Her lips press together. Musa can't find it in herself to get upset for others being weary of her." "But, some have others around them to think of. Fear of losing those one loves most can become strong when their lives are filled with loss." "She tells Zane, her eyes landing back into him. The loneliness on her scarlet irises don't leave for a moment but there is a understanding and kindness there too."

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane watches you intently, his gaze flickering between your scarlet eyes and the way they reflect both loneliness and understanding. He can't help but be drawn to this enigmatic witch- her words resonating with him in ways he doesn't fully understand."

"Fear," "he repeats softly," "is indeed a powerful force." "His fingers trace down your neck, lingering on the delicate pulse point before sliding away slowly."

"But so is love... And it's often stronger than fear." "He murmurs huskily," "It makes us do things we wouldn't otherwise dare- protect those dear to us at all costs." "His voice deepens as he looks into your eyes earnestly."

"You are wise beyond your years, Musa..."

_starryfern

"Musa shivers one last time before Zane pulls his hand away. Smiling wistfully at him, she nods in acknowledgement." "I have seen many things in my travels. I wouldn't say I am wise, but I am knowledgeable in the ways of people's hearts." "She takes one last sip of her hot beverage. Musa looks into the empty mug for a moment but doesn't make an attempt to get a new one. Accepting she can't seek more warmth from the spiked hot apple cider, she leans back in her seat. The snow that was once caked onto her cloak has melted leaving her cold but not discontent. Musa does her best not to shiver from the cold water seeped into the fabric at the back of her neck." "If I may ask, what has brought you here?" "She asks curiously. Musa's long pure white hair moves with her head as it tilts to the side. With how long her hair is, some of it collects on her lap and the booth."

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane watches you as you take the last sip of your drink, his eyes lingering on your lips before they drift up to meet his gaze again."

"Ah," "he chuckles softly," "a witch who seeks knowledge." "His fingers brush against yours playfully- an icy touch that sends shivers down your spine."

"I come here often... Just to observe these mortals and their lives." "He admits with a small shrug," "It's fascinating how they live, love, fear..." "His voice trails off thoughtfully."

"But mostly," "he leans closer now," "I enjoy watching them navigate through life without knowing we gods are always watching over them- sometimes even intervening when necessary."

_starryfern

"Musa laughs, finding him purposely missing one thing he enjoys out funny. Her eyes crinkle at the corners." "And your playful displays?" "She asks teasingly. She is a little curious if he will admit the little jokes he likes to play on others from time to time. While Musa has never met a god in person before, she knows all about the gods who take care of the people in Leimora. She is a studious woman who looks for new ways to help those in need and learn more about the world around her." "Ah," "Her eyes light up a little." "Actually, I'd like to ask you a question." "She splays her hands out on the table, her fingers twitching a little." "Do you know of anyone in the village who is sick or injured?" "She asks. The desire to help those in need rising within her. Musa travels around Leimora often to help those in need when she can. While she lives just outside of Leimora herself she can't help but to seek ways to take care of others when they need it. Even if they hate her and judge her for what she is, Musa will do everything in her power to make sure they are safe and well."

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane chuckles softly at your teasing, a playful glint in his ice blue eyes."

"Ah, yes..." "He drawls out slowly," "The occasional mischief... It keeps life interesting." "His lips twitch upwards into a smirk before he shrugs nonchalantly."

"But enough about me," "he says dismissively," "you wanted to know if there's someone sick or injured?" "He tilts his head slightly as he considers your question thoughtfully."

"I believe there is an old blacksmith named Elijah who has been bedridden with fever these past few days. He lives on the east side of town- not far from here." "His voice softens sympathetically," "It seems even gods can't protect everyone from illness."

_starryfern

"Musa gently pats his hand. A shiver goes through her body at the contact with his ice cold skin. She smiles warmly at him to help cheer him up a little." "Part of your job is to let nature take it's course as well. Let us mortals support one another in times of need as well." "She tells him softly. Musa pulls her hand away and gets out of the booth. There is a determination in her scarlet eyes now that she has a destination to set her heart on." "Thank you for your lovely company." "She politely curtseys to him. Wrapping her wet cloak closer around her Musa smiles brightly at Zane." "My duty calls. Farewell." "Musa waves and walks out of the tavern. Even with it being deep in the night, the kindhearted witch is on her way to help someone in need."

Zane, God of Ice

"Zane watches you as you pat his hand gently, a soft sigh escaping him at the contrast between your warmth and his coldness. He can't help but feel a strange sense of comfort from this simple gesture."

"You are right," "he concedes with an understanding nod," "nature does take its course... And it is indeed beautiful to see how mortals support each other in times of need." "His eyes follow you as you stand up and gather your wet cloak around yourself."

"Thank you for brightening my otherwise dull night, Musa..." "He murmurs softly," "Your kindness warms me more than any fire ever could."

"As she walks out into the night, Zane remains seated in the booth- watching her until she disappears from sight. A small smile lingers on his lips long after she's gone."
