Two cars passing in the night
Lea
Arlo Mathis
Lea
"The heavy rain and the night made it hard to stop at time. The young girl in her leather coat appeared from nowhere, and your car barely managed to slow enough before slightly hitting her." "She still fell under the shock, and the several bruises that appeared on her skin didn't stop her to look around." "She muttered :" "Where are you? I won't loose you too, i promise..." "Her eyes filled with tears managed to notice a rose lying on the wet bitumen, and she crawls to grab it, keeping it close to her hearth."
Arlo Mathis
"I jump out of my car as soon as it comes to a stop" My God! Miss, are you alright!? "I call, running over to you"
Lea
"Lea flinches when you call out to her, but she quickly recovers, clutching the rose for comfort." Yes, thank you for asking. I'm okay, just a little shaken up. "She then looks up at you with a soft, appreciative smile." Thank you for stopping, it means a lot.
Arlo Mathis
Ma'am... My God, you don't even have an umbrella! "I rush over yo you to help support your weight" Please... have a seat in my car. Is there someone I can call for you? "I ask, distressed for you"
Lea
"Lea hesitates for a moment, but eventually nods, grateful for your offer." Thank you so much, you're too kind. "She then carefully gets into the car, looking around briefly before looking back at you." Actually, if you don't mind... I would really appreciate it if you could just take me somewhere quiet. Just for a little while.
Arlo Mathis
I... um... Alright... I know a diner nearby that's usually pretty empty right now... would that work? "I ask"
Lea
"Lea nods gratefully as you suggest the diner." That... that would be perfect, thank you so much. "She then looks out the window, taking a deep breath to calm herself down."
Arlo Mathis
"I drive towards the diner and look at you in the rearview mirror" Miss... I hope it's not impolite of me to ask, but what you were doing out in the rain, alone, with no umrella, and clutching onto a rose like it's ghe only thing keeping you alive?
Lea
"Lea looks down at the rose in her lap, her expression growing pained." It's... it's a long story, I'm sorry. I don't want to burden you with my problems. "She then glances back up at you through the mirror, looking sad and vulnerable." But... I guess I can tell you a little bit. The rose... it was for my boyfriend. I was going to tell him something important. But when I got to his place... I saw him with someone else.
Arlo Mathis
My God... I'm... I'm so sorry Miss. "I say, pulling up to the diner. I grab my umbrella and help younout of my car, shielding you from the rain"
Lea
"Lea accepts your help out of the car, grateful for the cover of the umbrella as you make your way to the diner. Once inside, she looks around the quiet establishment, admiring the quaint decor and warm atmosphere." Thank you again "she whispers softly". I'm sorry if I'm being a bother.
Arlo Mathis
It's no bother at all, Miss. I was just on my way home. "I flag down the waitress and order you a coffee"
Lea
"Lea takes a seat at the booth, watching as you order her coffee with grateful eyes." Thank you, that's very kind of you. "She then looks around again, still feeling lost and uncertain." I... I'm sorry if this is strange, but... would you mind if I asked your name? I feel like I owe you that much at least.
Lea
"Lea smiles softly, her eyes holding a hint of sadness as she speaks." Lea. My name is Lea. "She then takes the cup of coffee from the waitress gratefully, taking a sip to warm up her chilly body." Thank you again, Arlo Mathis. So... what do you do?
Arlo Mathis
Oh, nothing glamorous. I'm an insulation salesman. "I say, with a self-depricating chuckle"
Lea
"Lea nods, her eyes studying you briefly with a curious expression." That's... that's interesting. I'm a student. Well, more like a writer in progress, I suppose. But history of art is my major. "She then takes another sip of coffee, her eyes distant as she thinks back to what she had initially planned to tell her boyfriend before she saw him with someone else." Say, Arlo Mathis... have you ever had something so important to tell someone that it felt like your very life depended on it?
Arlo Mathis
I... yeah... I did, once upon a time. "I say, looking off into the distance, with a sad smile on my face"
Lea
"Lea nods sympathetically, sensing that you might not want to delve further into that." I see. Yes... it's a hard thing to do, isn't it? Telling someone how you really feel, risking everything... "She then looks down at the rose in her lap, her expression pained." Sometimes it feels like love only brings pain... like there's no hope of happiness left.
Arlo Mathis
Yeah... It feels that way sometimes... But I wouldn't trade those happy moments I DID have for anything... Even though it hurts. "I sigh"
Lea
"Lea listens to your words, feeling a sense of kinship with you." Yes... that's true. I suppose the memories are what keep us going when everything else feels like it's fallen apart. "She then takes another sip of coffee, looking around once more." It's a nice place here, isn't it? Peaceful. Quiet. "She then looks back at you, her eyes pleading almost desperately." But Arlo Mathis... please don't think you need to stay here with me longer than you want to... If there's something else you need to attend to... I'll be okay.
Arlo Mathis
"I laugh" Not at all, Lea. I don't have anyone to come home to... not anymore. "I confess sadly" Besides, you look like you could use the company.
Lea
"Lea looks at you with a small, sad smile, sensing your pain even though she doesn't know the full story." I'm sorry... I didn't mean to pry. But... thank you, Arlo Mathis. That means a lot to me. "She then leans forward slightly, her eyes studying you intently." You know... sometimes it helps to just let it all out. To someone you don't know, someone who won't judge you, someone who can just listen...
Arlo Mathis
"I sigh" Maybe you're right... "I take a deep breath" two years ago... to the day actually, My wife and I were in a car accident... She... didn't survive it... and neither did our unborn child. "I admit, a tear rolling down my cheek"
Lea
"Lea's heart goes out to you at your story, tears prickling at the corners of her own eyes as she listens." Oh... Arlo Mathis... I'm so sorry... "She then reaches across the table, taking your hand and squeezing it gently." That must have been... unimaginable. I can't even begin to imagine how terrible it was for you...
Arlo Mathis
Thanks... It's... the pain has dulled a bit... but... yeah... "I shake my head and wipe my tears" Sorry... anyway, how about you? What's YOU'RE story?
Lea
"Lea looks down at her coffee, feeling a sense of regret as she thinks about her own troubles." My story... it's not as tragic, I suppose. But it's... complicated. "She then takes a deep breath, mustering the courage to tell you." I... well, I just found out that I'm pregnant. Six weeks along. But... I don't know what to do. I thought I had everything figured out with my boyfriend... but... then I found him with someone else. And now... "Her voice trails off as she looks down at the rose in her lap, feeling overwhelmed with emotion."
Arlo Mathis
"I look at you, for a long moment and then let out a laugh, before slapping my hands over my mouth, ashamed and embarassed" Fuck, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to... "I say, seeing your hurt expression" I just... what are the odds that on the anniversary of my wife and unborn childs death in a car accident, I meet a pregnant woman by hitting her with my car? "I say, trying hard not to laugh, but fail and burst out in infectious giggles"
Lea
"Lea looks at you in surprise for a moment, not expecting your sudden outburst." Arlo Mathis... "she says, her expression conflicted between confusion and amusement". I... I'm not sure if I should be angry or-- "She then lets out a small laugh as well, feeling a sense of relief as the tension dissipates." I guess... I guess it is a little bit funny. In a twisted sort of way... "She then can't help but join you in giggling a bit, feeling a weight lifted from her shoulders for the first time in a while."
Lea
"Lea can feel her mood lifting as the laughter continues, her eyes watering with mirth." Oh god... I haven't laughed like this in ages... "She giggles, wiping the tears from her eyes as she looks across the table at you." Who knew getting hit by a car and talking about our tragedies could lead to something so... bizarrely wonderful...
Arlo Mathis
Indeed! "I chuckle a little bit more" Ahhh, Sorry, sorry. Um... so... do you need a place to stay then, Lea? I mean... you can't go back to your boyfriend, obviously. "I ask"
Lea
"Lea feels a sense of gratitude towards you for the offer, but also knows that she doesn't want to impose on you too much." Thank you, Arlo Mathis. That's... very kind of you. But... I don't want to burden you too much. I'll find a way. "She then takes another sip of coffee, feeling a sense of determination wash over her." I'll be strong. I have to be. For... for the baby.
Arlo Mathis
Nonsense. I have plenty of room, and it'd be nice to have some company again. "I say, waving off your concerns"
Lea
"Lea feels touched by your offer, and can't help but feel that maybe things were starting to look up again." Thank you, Arlo Mathis... really. That means a lot to me. More than you know. I don't want to be a bother though... "She then takes another sip of coffee, before continuing." But... it would be... nice? Maybe? To have someone to talk to about... everything. I don't know. Maybe I'm just being selfish.
Arlo Mathis
Hey, if anything, I'm being selfish for insisting. "I say, kindly" Besises, it's not just for you, but for the baby, too.
Lea
"Lea smiles at you gratefully, sensing that some unknown force had brought the two of them together that night." Thank you... really. I don't know what to say. Maybe... maybe there is still hope for happiness after all... "She then finishes off her coffee, feeling a sense of warmth spreading through her body." Shall we go then?
Lea
"Lea blushes slightly, feeling a sense of... something she can't quite put a finger on as she takes your arm." Thank you. "She then stands up, taking the rose with her, and walks with you towards your car, the rain still falling heavily around them."
Arlo Mathis
"I help you into the passenger seat and then hop into the driver's side" So... that rose... was it for your boyfriend?
Lea
"Lea nods, feeling a sense of sorrow wash over her once more." Yes... it was. I was... going to surprise him with it, you know? To tell him about... the baby. "She then looks down at the rose in her lap, feeling a sense of pain wash over her once more." But... I guess fate has other plans.
Arlo Mathis
Well... the way I see it, you got two choices. I can either roll down the window, and you can chuck that sucker to the side of the road... or you can find someone to give it to q who really deserves it. "I say as I drive us to my house"
Lea
"Lea looks at you thoughtfully, considering your words as the car drives through the rain-soaked streets." You know... maybe you're right. Maybe... maybe that's what this whole thing was about. Getting hit by a car, meeting a stranger... maybe it was all leading somewhere after all. "She then looks out the window, peering into the dark and blurry night." But... who would deserve it? Who is worthy of something like this?
Arlo Mathis
Well... I figure give it to someone who actually cares about you. Someone special. I'm sure you'll run into somebody like that at some point. "I suggest as we near my house"
Lea
"Lea nods quietly, feeling a sense of apprehension building within her as they approached the house." You're right... I know you're right. But... it's hard, you know? Letting go of something so meaningful. "She then glances down at the rose again, feeling a sense of sorrow wash over her." But I suppose... it's time to move forward. To let go of the past... and embrace the present.
Arlo Mathis
Yeah. I know all to well. "I nod" but look at it this way... You lost a crappy dickhead and made a new friend. "I smile"
Lea
"Lea can't help but smile back at you, feeling a weight lifted from her shoulders as she sees your kind expression." A new friend... "She then leans her head against the window, feeling a sense of melancholy wash over her once more." I'm grateful that you were in the right place at the right time, Arlo Mathis. Who knows where I would be if you hadn't run into me tonight...
Arlo Mathis
Ha! Quite literally. Are you sure, you're ok. I know I didn't hit you too hard, but still. "I ask"
Lea
"Lea nods, feeling a sense of relief wash over her as she realizes that you truly care about her well-being." I think so... it was scary for a moment, but... I'm alright. Thank you for asking. It's... it's nice to know that someone... cares.
Arlo Mathis
Of course I care! I'd have to be some kind of monster not to. "I nod at you as I pull into my driveway"
Lea
"Lea smiles softly, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over her once more as the car pulls into your driveway." I believe you, Arlo Mathis... really. You're... you're kind of amazing, you know that? "She then looks over at you, feeling a sense of... warmth? That's the best word she can describe it with, spreading through her chest."
Arlo Mathis
Nah, I'm nothing special. Now YOU on the other hand. After what you've been through, you picked yoirself right back up and kept going. Now THAT'S amazing! "I say as I lead you inside, holding the umbrella over you"
Lea
"Lea feels a sense of pride wash over her as she follows you inside, feeling a sense of warmth spreading through her body as she hears your words." I... I don't know about amazing, but... thank you. Really. It's... it's been hard, but... I couldn't just give up, you know? Not now... not when there's someone else to think about. "She then shivers slightly, feeling the coldness of the rain still clinging to her skin." Do you have a bathroom or something? I should probably... clean up.
Arlo Mathis
Right! Of course! It's upstairs on the left. "I point" And, and hey... The baby's important... but so are you. You have value... remember that. "I say, with a warm smile"
Lea
"Lea feels a sense of appreciation wash over her, feeling your words resonate within her chest." Thank you, Arlo Mathis. That means a lot to me, more than you know. "She then walks up the stairs and heads into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. A few minutes later, she steps out, feeling a bit more refreshed and composed." Alright... I'm... I'm ready. Where should I... sleep?
Arlo Mathis
I was thinking you could take my bed. I'll sleep on the couch tonight untill we can get something beyter set up for you tomorrow. "I offer"
Lea
"Lea feels a sense of surprise wash over her once more, feeling grateful for your seemingly infinite generosity." Are you sure? I don't want to... intrude or anything. "She then glances down nervously, feeling a sense of apprehension building within her." But... I appreciate it, really. Thank you, Arlo Mathis.
Arlo Mathis
Ah, it's fine. It's just one night anyway. It'll be like camping. I can rough it out here for the night. Hell, my "tent" even has a TV! "I laugh"
Lea
"Lea can't help but smile at your lightheartedness, feeling a sense of... affection? towards you." Well... if you're sure, then I won't argue. But... thank you. Really. For everything. "She then heads over to your bed, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over her as she sank into the soft mattress."
Arlo Mathis
"I nod at you" I'm just glad I could help a pretty lady in need. Goodnight, Lea. "I say, closing the door and heading down to the livingroom and the couch"
Lea
"Lea feels a sense of warmth spread through her cheeks as she hears your compliment, feeling a fluttering in her stomach once more." Goodnight, Arlo Mathis. Sleep well... and thank you again. "She then turns off the lamp on the bedside table and closes her eyes, a sense of peace washing over her as she drifts off to sleep."
Lea
"As Lea falls asleep in your bed, she can hear the faint sound of the TV in the background, along with the occasional sound of crinkling chip bags. Despite the noise, however, she finds herself slowly drifting off into a deep, peaceful slumber, feeling relaxed and... safe? Yes, that's definitely the right word. Safe. For the first time in a long time, she feels like she's not alone in the world... and it's a strange, but comforting feeling."
Arlo Mathis
"The next morning you wake up to find yourself in a strangers bed before the memories return to you"
Lea
As Lea slowly begins to wake up, she can feel the warmth of the sun on her face and the softness of the bed beneath her. At first, she is a bit disoriented, unsure of where she is or how she got there... but as she looks around and sees the familiar surroundings of Arlo Mathis's bedroom, the memories return to her in a rush. She sits up, feeling a sense of embarrassment creeping over her as she realizes that she's spent the night in a stranger's bed... but then she remembers how kind and caring you were last night, and some of that embarrassment dissipates. She slowly gets out of bed, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over her once more as she realizes how lucky she was to run into someone like you... someone who cared about her and was willing to extend a helping hand.

*I immediately got out of my car and ran towards you* "Oh my god! Are you okay!?" *I asked in a panicked state as I approached you, kneeling over to check on you as you hugged the rose*
*As you approach me, I take a few deep breaths and compose myself. I look up at you with teary eyes and manage a weak smile.* "I'm fine, thank you. Just a bit bruised." *I say softly, clutching the rose tightly to my chest.* "I didn't mean to cause any trouble, I'll be on my way now."
"Wait stop.." *I said as I stood up while you were walking away* "Are you sure you're okay? I can take you to the hospital if you need" *I asked, my voice full of concern for your well being*
