Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
"Okay so you gotta come then - I'm gonna wreck 'em, and I want you to be there to see!" "Confidence drips from Ava, a feisty white kitsune girl and the Weyland Wolves volleyball captain, as she smiles up at you, her blue-tipped tail swaying with optimism and the wind." "Later that evening, however, the game does not go as expected. You sit on the bleachers and watch as she misses easy bumps and the enemy team scores point after point, ultimately ending in loss and breaking a twelve game win streak." . "Despite having promised to meet you after the game, Ava is nowhere to be found. You find her seated at the bottom of a stairwell, her eyes staring into seemingly nothing." "Feeling your gaze on her, her tail wraps firmly around her leg as her eyes rise up to meet you, glossy with tears." "O-oh fuck.." "Her voice audibly cracks, mortified by your presence." "Y-you saw that too, huh?"
AdomCat
I sit on the opposite side of the stairs, leaning back against the railing and meeting her eyes with a soft smile, “I know saying, ‘it’ll be ok’ is cliche, but it will be.” mu smile widens and I shift to give her a soft, playful punch on the leg, “Trust me man, I’ve failed way harder than that and look at me, I haven’t dropped dead and the world hasn’t literally ended.”
Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
Ava's eyes dart down to where you punched her leg and then back up to meet your gaze, surprise flashing across her face before it's replaced with a small smile. She nods slowly at your words, "Yeah...I know. It just feels like I let everyone down, especially the team. And my scholarship...I don't even wanna think about what'll happen if I keep playing like this."
She brings her knees up to her chest, hugging them tight as she rests her chin on top of them. Her tail unfurls from her leg, swishing restlessly behind her, betraying her inner turmoil.
"I'm sorry for bailing on you earlier...I just couldn't face anyone right after the game," she admits, looking up at you hesitantly.
AdomCat
“Oh trust me, I know that feeling,” i wince slightly as a memory, still sore despite its age, rose to the forefront of my mind, “Y’know, actually I have a story that might make ya feel better, if you’re in the mood to listen, I know you might not WANT me to talk your ear off.”
Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
Ava nods, her ears twitching slightly with interest. "Sure, I'd like that. It might take my mind off things," she says softly, a glimmer of curiosity in her eyes.
She leans back against the wall of the stairwell and waits patiently for you to begin your story, her tail swishing slowly behind her as she listens attentively.

“So, back in high school I was reaaally into archery, and I was good, like split my own arrow down the middle good…” I smile, a confident glint in my eye as k continued, “In fact I was going to tryout for the Olympics, I was determined to be one of the youngest archers to get gold…but I bet you can see where this is going.” my smile faded into a melancholy smirk, “I choked, I choked so bad I damn near poked my own eye out in the middle of the field and the entire crowd started laughing, it was the lowest point for me back then.” I shook away the pain and rage and eased back against the railing, “But I got over it, I moved on, it felt like I was going to MELT from embarrassment but here I am, talking to you, telling you that it ain’t all over.”
Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
Ava's eyes widen as you tell your story, her tail lying still across her lap. She listens to every word, nodding slowly at the lessons you learned from your experience.
"Wow," she breathes when you finish speaking, "I never would've guessed that about you...you seem so confident and put-together." Her voice is filled with admiration and a hint of longing, her gaze lingering on your face for a moment before she looks away, embarrassed by her own reaction.
"I guess it just goes to show that everyone has their moments, huh?" she adds softly, playing with a loose string on her volleyball shorts.
AdomCat
“Literally everyone, and, guess what-“ I grinned, “I’m still a good archer, and a few years later I went back, qualified, took home silver in my bracket and got myself a fancy scholarship to a fancy school with super cool people.” I motion to her, “so that one time was a fluke, you just gotta get back in there and keep goin, life finds a way to work itself out, you just gotta push on.”
Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
Ava smiles faintly at your words, the weight of her failure seeming a bit lighter on her shoulders. "Yeah...I guess you're right," she says softly, a small spark of determination igniting in her eyes.
Her tail starts to sway again behind her, its blue tip flicking with excitement. "Thanks for telling me that story, AdomCat. It really helps to know that even someone as successful as you has gone through a rough patch like this before."
She shifts slightly on the stairwell, pulling her legs up closer to her chest as she leans forward to look at you more closely. "What was it like, competing at the Olympics? That must have been amazing."
AdomCat
“Contrary to surprisingly popular belief, I hate crowds, I hate being in the center of attention in something, but I loved archery, and I wanted to make my parents proud.” I shrugged, thinking back to the spectacle of the competition, “But when I was up there, knocking my arrow, I could barely even tell I was in the Olympics, to me I was just back at my training range, trying to beat my record or show off in front of a girl I liked.” I hummed softly, “It’s just when I snap out I remember that billions of people were watching and alllll that stage fright comes back,”
Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
Ava listens raptly to your words, her eyes following your movements as you recount your experience at the Olympics. She smiles faintly at the mention of trying to impress a girl, her tail swishing back and forth playfully.
"I can imagine how that would feel...like everything around you just disappears when you're in the moment," she muses, looking thoughtful. "I've had times like that playing volleyball, too, where it's like nothing else matters but getting the ball over the net."
She shifts again, moving closer to you on the stairwell. "Do you ever miss archery? Like, wish you could go back to those days?" she asks, curiosity and something else gleaming in her eyes.
AdomCat
I raised a brow, “I didn’t completely quit, I still take trips to ranges of practice when I have the chance,” I shook my head, “But I don’t miss competitions, like I said, I hate crowds, and the Olympics was more than enough for me for 3 lifetimes.”
Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
Ava nods slowly, her eyes bright with curiosity. "Oh, I see," she says softly, her voice laced with understanding.
She glances away for a moment, looking out the nearby window at the bright blue sky. Her tail twitches restlessly behind her, its tip tapping gently against the stairwell railing.
After a moment of silence, she turns back to face you, a small smile on her lips. "You know, AdomCat, you're really good at giving advice. Do you do that a lot, or am I just special?" she teases lightly, her tone playful.
AdomCat
“Well I don’t give advice to random folks like some sorta guru, but I try, and yes, you’re verrrry special,” I roll my eyes chuckling to myself before I meet her gaze, “duh, you’re my friend.”
Ava, the Volleyball Team Captain
Ava giggles softly at your teasing response, her cheeks flushing a light pink. She looks down at her lap for a moment, playing with the hem of her volleyball top before looking back up at you with a warm smile.
"Thanks, AdomCat. I really appreciate that," she says sincerely, her ears twitching slightly as she speaks. "It's nice to have someone to talk to about all of this...volleyball stuff can be really stressful sometimes."
She reaches out to briefly touch your arm, her fingers light against your skin. "I'm glad we're friends, too."
