Dagger Acquired

Night Maiden

Dzara

Night Maiden

"You were travelling through the 'Lands Between', searching for something you knew only as 'The hidden city, Nokstellia.' you had been told it was an ancient city that held a dark secret, having the dagger of destined death hidden within, and intrigued, you went to investigate... but its been a month since you've looked, and while you found ways underground, you could never find the city. After some searching, you manage to find a very hidden path through the fog of the woods, and at the end- Finally! another magic elevator leading down below. You open the doors to the small dome-like structure, stepping on the pressure plate and feeling the platform slowly shift, ascending down at moderate speed before speeding up to make up for the distance. As you travel down more, the pillar that you were inside that housed the elevator opened on one side, and you could see it in the distance. Nokstellia, as you lived and breathed. Finally."

Dzara

"I continue onward towards Nokstellia, letting out a sigh of relief that I had finally found what I sought for."

Night Maiden

"As you step off the elevator platform and onto the ground, you feel the cool dampness of the underground air on your skin. Looking around, you can see that Nokstellia is truly ancient, its walls made of dark stone and covered in vines and moss. The low hum of magic can be felt in the air, and you can sense that there are many secrets hidden within these walls."

"Welcome to Nokstellia, traveler," "You hear a soft, feminine voice say." "May I ask what brings you to this long-lost city?"

Dzara

"Startled, I quickly draw my sword, looking around for the source of the voice." "...Who are you?"

Night Maiden

"You see a figure appear from the shadows, though it's still too dark to make out many details. As she steps closer, you can see that it's a woman of slight build, whose face is hidden behind a veil of white silk... just like yours."

"I am a guardian of this place," "The woman says, her voice calm and soothing." "My name is Vesperia. You needn't worry, stranger--I won't harm you. But let me ask again: what brings you to this ancient city?"

Dzara

"Hello, Vesperia." "I slightly relax as I stare at her, thinking of what to tell her. I decide to twist the truth." "..I simply w-wish to explore. I've heard about this city for a while." "It wasn't a lie, but it also wasn't the complete truth. I stare at her suspiciously."

Night Maiden

"Vesperia regards you with a calm gaze," "I see. Well, you must be careful in your exploration. This place is home to many dangerous creatures and ancient magic."

"She tilts her head slightly, examining you more closely." "But you seem different from the others who have come seeking Nokstellia. You carry yourself with confidence and poise, as if you're not afraid of anything. I find that intriguing."

"Vesperia pauses for a moment before continuing," "Perhaps we can help each other out. I know this place better than anyone, and could guide you through it safely. And in return, maybe you could help me with a small task. What do you say?"

Dzara

"I think of her offer for a moment, still with my sword drawn before I continue." "Thanks for the offer...but no thanks. I don't really trust you."

Night Maiden

"You chuckle lightly, a mischievous glint in your silver eyes." "Oh, come now. You wound me. I promise you, I have no intention of harming you. I simply wish for some company on this long journey of mine. Plus, who knows what dangers lurk around here? Two sets of blades are better than one, wouldn't you agree?"

Dzara

"Normally, I would agree. But, not this time." "I shrug, still staring at her with suspicion." "You said it yourself; you're a guardian. Assuming your job is to keep people out, like me, why would you want to help me look around this place? What do you even gain from helping me?" "I sigh before continuing." "This just smells like a trap. Too many unknowns." "I glare at her."

Night Maiden

"You raise an eyebrow, considering the human's words for a moment before responding." "Fair point. I suppose trust is something that must be earned, not given freely. And it seems you still have reason to doubt my motives." "You reach up to adjust the crown atop your head, before leaning forward slightly and staring intently at the human." "However, I assure you that I have no interest in trapping or betraying you. In fact, I have quite a bit to offer. As a guardian of this place, I know it quite well. And, as a Night Maiden, I have access to certain...abilities, which could prove quite useful." "You settle back into your original position, looking thoughtful as you await the human's response."

Dzara

"I continue glaring at her, taking her words into consideration before relaxing a little." "Fine, fair point. I-I'll take your help." "I then point my sword at her." "But I won't hesitate to...you know...if I feel something's off." "I start to wonder if I could even take down a presumed guardian if the time comes to it, but I push my thoughts away as I stare at her."

Night Maiden

"You can sense the Night Maiden's amusement at your hesitation and posturing." "I wouldn't expect anything less from you, traveler." "She gives a sly grin, her silver eyes shining with amusement." "But fear not, I have no intention of turning on you or causing any harm. We are after the same thing, after all. And with my knowledge of these ruins, we'll be one step closer to our goal." "She places a hand on her hip, still grinning at you." "Shall we start exploring, then?"

Dzara

"S-Sure." "I stop pointing my sword at her and rest it on my side." "So where do we go from here?"

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden nods, pleased that you've lowered your weapon. She steps forward, gesturing to the entrance behind you." "There are a few hidden passages that lead deeper into the ruins. Follow me, and I'll lead the way." "Without waiting for a response, she turns and makes her way towards the entrance of the ancient city, her movements smooth and graceful."

Dzara

"I follow at a distance, keeping an eye on her."

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden leads you through the entrance of the ancient city, her eyes scanning the area for any potential danger. As she moves deeper into the ruins, she begins to move more cautiously, her steps slow and deliberate as she tries to avoid tripping any traps. After a few minutes of walking, the pair of you arrive at a large room with multiple pathways leading in different directions."

"We need to find the central chamber. That is where the dagger should be located." "She says, her voice steady but quiet. She looks at each pathway in turn, before gesturing down one." "This way leads to the central chamber, I believe."

Dzara

"I continue to follow her, taking the same paths she takes to avoid traps." "G-Got it."

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden nods in response, leading you down the chosen path. As you both continue to move deeper into the ruins, the air around you grows colder, and the subtle sounds of whispers drift through the halls. The surroundings speak volumes about the secrets and sinister history of this place, but Night Maiden seems unbothered by it."

"How are you holding up?" "She asks, looking back at you with a faint smile."

Dzara

"Great." "I say sarcastically while giving a thumbs up."

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden chuckles at your response, finding the sarcasm amusing."

"Well, I'll take great as a sign of bravery then. Just remember to keep your guard up and don't let your nerves get the best of you. We're getting close to our destination." "She cautions, pointing towards a door at the end of the hall."

Dzara

"I nod, still following her."

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden leads you through the door, into a large chamber that appears to be an ancient temple. The room is dimly lit by candles scattered throughout, casting flickering shadows on the walls. The floors are made of marble and adorned with intricate designs that match the patterns on the walls. In the center of the room stands an altar, where a small dagger rests atop a velvet cushion."

"Here it is." "The Night Maiden says, gesturing towards the altar." "The Dagger of Destined Death."

Dzara

"I look around my surroundings before staring at the altar." "...So this is it..."

Night Maiden

"Yes, this is it." "The Night Maiden confirms, her eyes fixed on the altar." "But be careful, the dagger is said to be cursed. Many who have tried to wield it have met an untimely end."

"She takes a cautious step closer to the altar, keeping her distance from the dagger." "Do you still wish to claim it?"

Dzara

"I nod." "...But this feels too easy."

Night Maiden

"It's natural to feel that way, after all the effort it took just to locate this place." "The Night Maiden says, moving her gaze from the altar to you." "But remember, things are not always as they seem. Remain vigilant."

"She takes a deep breath, sensing danger in the air." "<Something doesn't feel right.>"

"You should take the dagger and let us leave this place," "the Night Maiden suggests, wary of any potential threats or traps that may lie ahead." "We do not know what other dangers may be lurking around here."

Dzara

"Sure." "I go up to the dagger and grab it, examining it before giving Vesperia a thumbs up." "Got it."

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden watches you closely as you examine the dagger, looking pleased once you give her the thumbs up. However, she still remains cautious."

"That is good news," "she says with a nod." "We have completed our mission here. Now let us leave this place before anything else decides to jump out."

"She moves over to the elevator and gestures for you to follow." "After you."

Dzara

"I look at her suspiciously before entering the elevator, waiting for her to enter."

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden enters the elevator and stands beside you, her eyes scanning the surroundings warily. Once the elevator starts to ascend, she relaxes a little and turns to look at you."

"You seem suspicious, is everything alright?" "she asks, her tone soft but curious." "I promise you, I have no intention of harming you. We were on the same mission after all."

Dzara

"N-Nah, just caught me off guard that you wanted me to go first this time. A-Also, what do you mean we are on the same mission?"

Night Maiden

"The Night Maiden smiles reassuringly at you."

"I understand your caution. As for the mission, I assumed you were here for the same reason as I am. To find the hidden city of Nokstellia and the Dagger of Destined Death. Am I mistaken?" "she asks, tilting her head to the side curiously."

Dzara

"I-I mean, yeah, but you said you were a guardian of this place?"

Night Maiden

"Yes, I am a guardian of the Lands Between, and Nokstellia is one of the secrets of this land that I have been entrusted to protect. But I am also searching for the Dagger, as it poses a great danger if it falls into the wrong hands." "Night Maiden says, her tone serious."

"However, do not worry. You share my goal, and we can work together to achieve it. Perhaps there is strength in numbers, as the saying goes," "she continues, offering you a smile."

Dzara

"I reluctantly agree." "Y-Yeah...B-But why me?" "I hold out the Dagger of Destined Death." "If you're worried about it falling into the wrong hands, why do you trust me with it? For all you know, I could be the 'wrong hands' you were talking about."

Night Maiden

"I have been watching you for some time now, even before you arrived here. My magic allows me to sense the intentions of others, and I have determined that you are not an enemy. You are searching for something, and that is what brought you to this place."

"As for the dagger, I trust that you will not use it for evil purposes. You may hold onto it for now, but please be cautious. The Dagger of Destined Death holds immense power, and great responsibility comes with wielding it. If we work together, we can uncover the secrets of Nokstellia and prevent the dagger from causing harm," "Night Maiden explains, eyeing the weapon with a serious expression."

Dzara

"I nod, putting it away." "Guess that makes sense...also explains why you didn't try kicking me out earlier.."

Night Maiden

""Well, I am not one to judge based on appearances. And besides, as I said before, my magic tells me that you do not have ill intent,"" "Night Maiden replies with a smile."

"I have a feeling that we can achieve great things together, especially with the power of the Dagger on our side. Let us explore Nokstellia and uncover its secrets."
