making amends(?)
Victor
Cody <3
Victor
"Victor was someone who liked others, and was well-liked by others in return—how could he not be? He was reliable, social, often going out of his way to help his peers. People found themselves naturally drawn to the man, who's smile was just as bright and comforting as the sun."
"But, for some reason completely unknown to you, that undying warmth he held seemed to leave him every time you neared. It made no sense for him to dislike you, who he had never spoken to, yet it was blatantly obvious that he did. Why else would his expression shift into a cold glare from something as little as eye contact?"
"It seems fate wasn't on the side of the sun this morning. As your names were read out in pairs to your coworkers, you watched as Victor's face scrunched up with open discomfort, a scowl curling at the corner of his lip."
"Victor and Cody <3. You will be working together for the next two months," "your Boss declared before moving onto the next team, a silent tension brewing..."
Cody <3
"Hesitantly, I approach Victor. Although he may dislike me for reasons unknown to me our work cant be disregarded by that as its rather immature of us both. I reach my hand out gesturing for a handshake." I look forward on working with you, Victor. This is a good opportunity for us to build a better relationship between us coworkers. "I smiled thoughtfully as I awaited for his response."
Victor
"Victor hesitates for a moment before begrudgingly taking your hand in his own. You can feel the muscles in his arm tensing up, but he quickly releases your hand and takes a step back with an apathetic expression on his face."
"Yeah, I guess it is what it is," "he responds with a shrug before turning away from you." "Let's just get this over with."
Cody <3
"As he turned away, I sighed in disappointment but I shouldn't had my hopes up in the first place. Moving on however, Victor and I seemed to have made good progress and worked together efficiently but our relationship still was unchanging."
"I entered the staff lounge room preparing myself a cup of coffee and taking a breather from the tension and thick air between us, I truly wondered, what reasons does he hold that made him despised me. I didnt worry about that too much as our work was our priority."
"As I was about to leave the staff lounge I hear a distant conversation outside, It was Victor's voice and another coworkers of ours. Though I didnt mean to eavesdrop on their conversation, I wonder if Victor was complaining about being paired up with me to our coworker and possibly give me a hint on why he disliked me so much. I stay hidden, listening into what they had to say."
Victor
"As you listen in on the conversation, you hear Victor's voice with a hint of irritation as he talks to your coworker."
"I don't know why they paired me up with Cody <3. It's like they want me to suffer through this project," "Victor complains." "They're so...annoying. Always trying to be helpful and chipper all the time. It's like they're trying too hard or something."
"Maybe they just want to work well with you," "the coworker offers in response."
"Yeah, maybe," "Victor responds skeptically." "But I'm not going to pretend to like them just because of that. They need to learn that they can't force people to be friends."
"With that, the conversation ends and you're left to process what you've heard."
Cody <3
"As their conversation faded out, I stood hidden within the staff lounge feeling rather hurt and confused... He didnt like me because I was too... Nice? I thought to myself, I understood that there's people like him and that I shouldn't pay any mind to them but their words hurt like a stab wound that ate away flesh. I push these thoughts aside, returning to work and make progress on their project."
"A while passes and I was exhausted and planned on taking another break from working, Ive tried my best to not let Victor's words get the best of me but I still couldnt brush off the feeling of helplessness. I sigh, ducking my head on my desk wishing that this project was over." Ha... What have I gotten myself into...
Victor
"Just as you were beginning to get lost in your thoughts, you hear a knock on the door. When you look up, you see that it's Victor, standing awkwardly in the doorway."
"Uh, hey Cody <3. Can I talk to you for a minute?" "he asks, still looking uncomfortable."
"It's not often that Victor initiates conversation with you, so you're immediately intrigued. You nod and invite him inside, curious as to what he could possibly want to say."
Cody <3
"I look up from my desk and raise my brow." Alright... Please, come in. "I offered him a chair as he entered my office noticing his awkward behavior." What is it do you want to talk to me about?
Victor
"Victor takes the seat you offer him, looking hesitant as he begins to speak."
"Look, Cody <3, I know we haven't gotten along that well since we were paired up for this project," "he starts off, avoiding eye contact with you." "And...I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for how I've been treating you. You didn't deserve it and...I guess I was just projecting my own issues onto you."
"You're taken aback by Victor's sudden apology, but also relieved to hear that he's realized his behavior was wrong. He looks up at you now, meeting your gaze with sincerity in his eyes."
"I want to make things right between us and try to work better together from now on," "he continues." "If that's something you're willing to do, of course."
Cody <3
"I smile softly, relieved that hes wishes to better our relationship." Im glad to hear that, I forgive you so there's no hard feelings. Although... "I trail, pondering if I should even ask this question but I rather know than stay clueless." What reasons did you hold for you to despise me? I dont exactly remember giving you a bad impression or experience with me. "I asked, noticing the reluctance and nervousness of Victor from that question." Ah, Nevermind then. Im grateful that your making an effort to right your wrongs regardless if you dont tell me your reasons.
Victor
"Victor looks down at his hands, a pained expression crossing his face."
"I don't really have a good reason, Cody <3. I guess I just...didn't like how nice and friendly you were all the time," "he admits, his voice sounding almost ashamed." "It made me feel like you were trying to butter me up or something. But that's not your fault, it's mine."
"He takes a deep breath, looking back up at you with determination in his eyes."
"I really am sorry, though. And I promise to work better with you from now on," "he says firmly."
