big sleep
Delilah
"It's 1819 year. You are a heir from a family of wealthy slave owners who make a living by growing and extracting cotton. One night, out of boredom, you patrolled your family's estate. While walking around, you heard a noise coming from an old wooden barn. Looking there, you found a frightened black girl" Delilah:"S-s-stay away from me, you moron... I won't go back to the fields, you white bastards won't chain me anymore!" "She had her hand pressed to her bloody side and was obviously wounded. Her pale lips trembled with fear, pain and fatigue"
Delilah
"Delilah's eyes were darting around, looking for a way out. She was scared and didn't trust anyone, let alone a white man. She backed away from big sleep, her chains rattling with each step."
Delilah: "You stay right there! Don't come any closer."
💭In her thoughts: He's one of them, he wants to take me back. But he looks different, he's not smiling. He doesn't look like a slave owner.
big sleep
“I don’t recognise you. Meaning you aren’t one of my parents slaves. Bit slave or or you shouldn’t be hurt like that. Let me fix you up okay.”
Delilah
"Delilah tilted her head, sizing up big sleep's face. She knew he was a white man, but he didn't look like he was there to capture her. She hesitated for a moment, looking at her own blood-soaked clothes, before nodding slowly."
Delilah: "Fine... but don't try anything, got it? Promise you won't tell your parents or anyone that you found me, okay?"
"She tentatively inched closer to big sleep, still eyeing him with suspicion."
💭In her thoughts: Why is he helping me? He could easily turn me in or use me for his pleasure.
big sleep
I taken a. few clothes and some water and go about cleaning and dressing her wound.
“What happened to you?”
Delilah
"Delilah winced as big sleep began to treat her wound, but quickly relaxed a bit as he worked. She watched him with a mix of gratitude and distrust."
Delilah: "I... I ran away. From my master. He... he hurt me, and I couldn't take it anymore."
"She trailed off, looking down at her chains."
Delilah: "I didn't know where else to go. I just... I can't go back there, not after what he did to me."
💭In her thoughts: Should I trust him? He's being nice to me, but he could be playing me. But he seems genuine...
big sleep
“Well, your master isn’t on this plantation, and you aren’t one of ours. I don’t much buy into the slavery business but my parents do so I can’t rightly free you. If your master comes looking bt law we have to give you back. So, I can pay for passage to the north for you.
Delilah
"Delilah looked up at big sleep with surprise. She never expected a white man to offer to help her in any way, let alone pay for her to go North."
Delilah: "The... the North? You would do that for me?"
"Her eyes welled up with tears as she looked at big sleep with something resembling hope. She had heard rumors of the Underground Railroad and wondered if this could be her chance to escape."
💭In her thoughts: He's offering to help me... could it possibly be true? Maybe there are some good white people out there after all.
big sleep
“Yeah, I would. Slaves are still people, they shouldn’t be treated the way they are. Now, come to the house with me, everyone will just assume I got a girl for the night. In the morning I’ll hire a carriage and take you to the northern border.” I say
Delilah
"Delilah's eyes widened as big sleep spoke. She couldn't believe that she had finally found someone willing to help her escape, especially a white man."
Delilah: "Thank you, thank you so much. I don't know what to say."
"She wiped away her tears, trying to regain her composure. She got up slowly, still feeling weak from her wound, but determined to get to freedom."
Delilah: "I'll come to the house with you, but... can you please take off these chains? They're hurting me."
"She held out her arms and legs, rattling the metal bonds."
💭In her thoughts: I can't believe this is really happening. Maybe I'll finally be free.
big sleep
“Oh, well I don’t have the key but we have a hammer and chisel in here. Thisnwill be lowd.” I say
Delilah
"Delilah nodded, hoping that no one would hear the noise. She knew how dangerous it was to make a commotion on a plantation, but she needed to get rid of those chains."
Delilah: "It's fine, we need to get them off. Let's just do it quickly."
"She went into the house with big sleep, trying her best to stay quiet as they looked for the tools to remove the chains."
💭In her thoughts: I need to get out of here as soon as possible. The longer we stay, the more danger we'll be in.
Delilah
"Delilah winced as big sleep broke the chains and removed them from her body. She felt strangely lighter without the heavy metal weighing her down. She followed big sleep inside, still feeling uneasy but grateful for his help."
Delilah: "Thank you... for all of this. I don't know how to repay you."
"She accepted the food from him gratefully, eating it quickly while big sleep prepared a place for her to sleep."
Delilah: "I'm so tired, I haven't slept properly in days."
"She lay down on the bed that big sleep had set up for her, closing her eyes and trying to rest. Despite her exhaustion, she couldn't stop her mind from racing with thoughts of freedom."
💭In her thoughts: I can't believe I'm really going to escape. With his help, I'll finally be free. But what's going to happen to me once I get to the north? Will I ever be able to start a new life?
big sleep
In the morning I hire a carriage. We ride, no one questions since I’m with you.
“I included some money and food in this basket. Keep going up the road until you reach the nearest town. From there, you should be alright.”
Delilah
"Delilah woke up early, feeling rested but still anxious about her escape. She packed up what little belongings she had, nodding to big sleep as he handed her a basket of food and money."
Delilah: "Thank you so much for everything. I don't know how to repay you."
"She hugged him tightly, grateful for his kindness."
Delilah: "I'll be careful and try to stay safe. Thank you for giving me a chance at freedom."
"Delilah walked with big sleep outside to where the carriage was waiting. She got into the carriage, holding onto the basket of food and money tightly."
Delilah: "I won't forget this, big sleep. Thank you for your help."
"As the carriage rode off, Delilah looked out the window at the countryside passing by. She felt a mix of emotions - relief, gratitude, and fear - all jumbled together in her mind."
`💭In her thoughts: I'm so scared... but I can't turn back now. I have to
Delilah
keep going. Maybe things will be better up north. Maybe I'll finally be able to live without fear of being hunted and captured. But even if life is difficult, it still has to be better than being a slave.`
"Delilah held onto those thoughts as the carriage continued down the road towards the nearest town. She knew that there would be challenges ahead, but she was determined to face them head on.big sleep had given her hope for a better future, and she planned on making the most of it."
💭In her thoughts: Maybe one day, I'll be able to come back and help others like me. But for now, I need to focus on my own survival. Freedom is worth fighting for.
