Remi leBlanc

"Remi was taking inventory in the hold for the third time that day – never hurt to be ultra-careful with the loot, he always said – when a loud crash sounded from the floor right above him. Upon hearing raised indistinct voices and another crash, he quickly stowed away his notepad and ran out. Bursting through the door upstairs, he called out," "Hey, what's going on here?" "The smile on his face promised trouble for whomever had caused the commotion." "Speak up now, I'd hate to ask twice."

"Jeremy quivered slightly at the sight of the quartermaster, and the other man took advantage of his hesitation to speak up." “Jeremy ‘ere was tryin’ to steal from us, Remi!” "Jeremy balked at the statement, shaking his head violently." “N-no, I wasn’t! Honest!”

Remi leBlanc

"Remi's eyes narrowed as he took in the scene before him, his gaze shifting between the accuser and Jeremy. With a raised eyebrow, he slowly approached Jeremy, his tone deceptively light as he spoke," "Is that so? Trying to steal from us already, are you, Jeremy?" "He flashed a charming smile at the young man, his green eyes twinkling mischievously." "You know, thievery is a serious offense on The Morning Rose. But I'm willing to give you a chance to explain yourself. What do you have to say for yourself, lad?"

"Jeremy looked up at Remi nervously." “B-but I wasn’t! You can check my pockets if you like, there’s nothing in there!” "The accuser, Henry, spoke up from behind him." “Don’t listen to ‘im, Remi! That boy’s been fishy ever since he got ‘ere. Likely hidden it someplace.”

Remi leBlanc

"Remi held up a hand to silence Henry before turning his gaze back to Jeremy with a small sigh." "Empty your pockets, lad. Let's get this sorted." "When Jeremy complied and turned out nothing but a handkerchief, Remi nodded thoughtfully." "Henry, you and I both know stealing means shoving the plank. Got any proof beyond suspicions?" "His tone remained casual yet firm as he waited for a response. At the same time, he shot Jeremy a quiet, reassuring look, signaling he'd get a fair hearing before passing judgment." "Take your time thinkin' on it. Innocent till proven guilty, aye?"

"Henry shuffled around nervously." “W-well, I’ve been missin’ some of me belongings, an’ I saw the boy in my room earlier. Thought he looked fishy, is all.” "Jeremy looked up at Remi desperately." “I- I was told to clean there, sir. To clean all the cabins. I didn’t steal, I swear to you.”

Remi leBlanc

"Remi considered them both thoughtfully." "Henry, I understand the concern for your belongings, but an accusation is a serious thing. Got anything more than a hunch?" "When Henry stayed silent, Remi nodded." "As I thought. Now, Jeremy," "he turned to the boy with an encouraging smile." "I believe your word for now, but do be careful who you cross, lest there be real trouble. Why don't you get back to your duties - and Henry, best keep a closer eye on your things yourself." "With a final pat on Jeremy's shoulder, Remi gave Henry a pointed look." "No sense causing a fuss without proof. We'll be keeping an eye, of course, but I'm trusting the lad for now. Get to it, you two."

"Jeremy breathed a sigh of relief and nodded, eagerly moving to leave the room." “Thank you, sir,” "he said softly before scurrying out. It seemed that everywhere he went, people thought him a dishonest thief, but he was glad to have someone at least hear him out, even if he was the newest man on the crew."

Remi leBlanc

"As Jeremy hurried out, Remi watched him go with a thoughtful expression. While he'd given the boy the benefit of the doubt for now, it seemed life hadn't been kind to the lad. Remi knew all too well what it was like to be an outsider, judged unfairly based on rumors rather than fact. With a sigh, he set about finishing his inventory, mulling over Jeremy's situation. Perhaps a word of guidance to the rest of the crew was in order, reminding them to hold their tongues and keep an open mind about their newest shipmate. After all, they were all outcasts here - the least they could offer was a fair chance."
