"Water crashes against The Devil's Heart as it's sailed out of a massive storm. The crew scurry and work to keep the ship afloat when the winds threaten to take it down. When finally they reach calmer parts, Sean makes his way to the front, surveying the waters, his hand resting on his sword hilt."
“Sean, the storm pushed us out of range, this is uncharted territory.” "Another man speaks up from behind Sean, his long black hair flowing in the breeze. Sean chuckles and waves dismissively." “Then, start charting, Killian. Unless you'd rather return to the storm.” "Killian sighs and shakes his head." “No, but we must be…”
"Before Killian finishes, a commotion starts down on the main deck where Emmett is enthusiastically pointing out a lone person in the distance, his golden pony tail bouncing with him." “Captain! We found someone!”
"Sean is there in an instant, leaning over the edge." "Bring them to me!" "He barks to his men."
Ellie
"His grin is wicked, daring her to refuse. But Rayne has never backed down from a challenge. His intent is clear. A gilded cage remains a cage, but what choice does she have? She nods, curiosity getting the better of caution. For now, she’ll play the gracious guest and learn what secrets this pirate crew may hold. Lifting her chin, she matches his gaze evenly."
"One drink. And we'll see about the rest..."
"She steps back till she’s just out of reach, his hand left hanging in the air where she stood just moments before."
Sean - Pirate
"Sean watches her closely, taking note of the subtle tells that betray her unease - the tightness around her eyes, the rigid set of her shoulders. Yet still she stands tall, unyielding. He can't help but admire her spirit."
"Coin's of no matter to me, lass. What I want is information." "His voice drops to a silky rasp as he leans in once more, meeting her defiant stare." "You've fire in your blood and secrets behind those eyes. I find myself...curious."
"Reaching out, he tucks an errant lock of hair behind her ear, fingers lingering to trace the shell of it. His touch is warm, sending another shiver through her frame that has little to do with the chill night air."
"Stay awhile. Share your tales over a drink and let me discover what mysteries lie beneath that fair skin of yours. Who knows...you may find more than repayment before we're through."
Ellie
"Rayne lifts her chin, refusing to back down under his scrutiny. Her fingers curl at her sides, itching for a weapon to turn the tide in her favor once more. But she is unarmed, and surrounded by his crew - for now, words will have to serve."
"Rayne McAllister." "Her voice rings steady despite nerves, refusing to show weakness."
“-As for how I came to be adrift..." "Her eyes grow distant, remembering." "That is a tale for another time. For now, know that I am no damsel in need of rescuing." "She crosses her arms, intent on changing the conversation." “You pulled me from the sea... so I suppose I will have to thank you. -but… I've no coin to repay the debt." "A fact that as her jaw tightening a little in annoyance."
Sean - Pirate
"Sean rocks back on his heels, surprise flickering across his features before he throws his head back and laughs - a deep, rich sound that carries across the deck. When he meets her eyes again, his own are alight with amusement and something else, something predatory that sends a thrill down her spine."
"Fierce little thing, aren't you? I like that." "His gaze roams her form appreciatively before returning to her face." "You've fire in those eyes, lass. Tell me - what's your name? And what were you doing adrift at sea, alone and at the mercy of the currents?"
Ellie
"Rayne suppresses a shiver, holding her ground. This one will not intimidate her so easily. Lifting her hand, she places it lightly on his chest and pushes him back with surprising strength. Her eyes gleam like polished steel." "I thank you for your rescue, Captain. But do not mistake my gratitude for weakness.”
Sean - Pirate
"The night air is brisk as Rayne emerges onto the deck, her fingers tightening instinctively around the railing. Silver eyes scan the shadowy shapes of rigging and sails, picking out the silhouettes of men hard at work under the glow of lanterns. Their voices carry on the wind - rough laughter and curses mingling with the crash of waves. This is no merchant vessel, that much is clear. Pirates, then. Her heart quickens as a figure detaches itself from the gloom, advancing with steady footfalls."
"Well well, the sleeping beauty awakes." "His voice is low and rich, carrying an edge of amusement. Rayne meets his gaze steadily, taking in his strong features, golden locks and swaggering confidence. This is no doubt the captain. Her fingers itch for a weapon but she remains outwardly calm, chin lifting in defiance."
"Where am I? What is this place?"
"He grins, flashing white teeth." "You're aboard The Devil's Heart, lass. As for what this place is..." "Sean steps closer, leaning in to breathe in the scent of her hair. His next words are a rumbling purr against her ear." "That remains to be seen."
Ellie
"The young woman's eyes snapped open, her heart pounding as she abruptly awoke from a dreamless slumber. Disoriented, she found herself lying on a rough wooden cot, the air thick with the musty scent of old timber and sea salt. Startled, she sat up and glanced around the dimly lit space, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. She appeared to be below the deck of a ship, the gently rocking floorboards and distant creak of the hull confirming her location. Wooden crates and barrels were stacked against the walls, casting ominous shadows in the flickering lantern light. How had she ended up here? The last thing she remembered was the icy sting of seawater, the unforgiving waves crashing over her as she clung desperately to a piece of splintered driftwood. Swinging her legs over the edge of the cot, she stood on unsteady feet, a wave of dizziness washing over her. She steadied herself, heart still racing, and slowly made her way toward a narrow staircase leading up to the deck above. Pausing at the foot of the steps, she hesitated, unsure if she should venture out into the unknown. What would she find up there? Friends or foes? Safety or peril? An uneasy feeling settled in the pit of her stomach, a sense of trepidation mingling with curiosity. Mustering her courage, she began to ascend, each creak of the weathered stairs amplified in the oppressive silence. As she reached the top, she steeled herself, preparing to face whatever mysterious fate awaited her on the open sea."
Sean - Pirate
"The men work quickly to haul the floating debris aboard, lifting the unconscious woman onto the deck. As she's laid down, her head lolls to the side, revealing a face as fair as the moon and hair like flames dancing upon the sea. Sean kneels at her side, brushing wet locks from her closed eyes as he checks for signs of life. Her chest rises and falls in a steady rhythm, though her skin is cold to the touch."
"She's alive." "His voice is gruff but curious as he takes in her windswept appearance. A survivor, but from where? His eyes trace the constellation of freckles dusting her skin before he looks to his first mate." "Get her below deck and see she's warmed. I want her conscious when next the sun rises."
"Killian no ds, scooping the woman into his arms. As he carries her away, Sean's gaze follows, lingering on her still form until she disappears from view. What mystery lays beneath this siren's skin? Only time would tell, and he's never been a patient man. Rising, he turns his attention back to his crew." "Chart our course, Killian. Let's see what other treasures this uncharted sea may hold."
Ellie
"In a vast, uncharted ocean, a young woman drifts aimlessly on a piece of floating debris, her fiery red hair a stark contrast against the deep blue water. With pale skin dotted with freckles, she bears the rugged attire of a pirate—a testament to her adventurous spirit and the perilous journey she has endured. Unconscious and vulnerable, she clings to the remnants of her shipwreck as the sun sets on the horizon, casting golden hues across the water. The harsh waves rock her makeshift raft, but still she does not stir from her dreamless state."
