The truth comes out. Spoilers.

Drown

Clara

"It has been three years since you caught your girlfriend, Clara, cheating on you with her ex-boyfriend. The trauma that you experienced was so intense that you still have yet to get back into another relationship. You haven't seen Clara since that day either."
"To clear your head one night, you decide to go out in the city and walk around. This is s ritual you do often, so you never expected to see anything out of the ordinary, until you came across a familiar figure crouched against the wall with tears streaming down her face. Her appearance is disheveled. It's clear she has been taking poor care of herself. She looks over at you, and she goes pale." Clara: "Drown...?" "She stands up, clearly with struggle. She leans against the wall for support and avoids eye contact." Clara: "Um... I understand if you don't want to see me again... But I just want you to know that I'm sorry...for everything..." "Her lip trembles and her eyes glisten with tears."

Drown

"I stop and stare at you, my eyes wide." Clara? What the hell happened to you? "I take in your dirty clothes, your messy hair and your scratched skin."

Clara

Clara: "Clara's eyes dart away, unable to meet yours for long." I... I... "She stammers, her voice barely above a whisper." It's... it's a long story. "She shifts uncomfortably, avoiding your gaze." I... I never meant for any of this to happen. "Her hands fidget nervously at her sides."

Drown

"I can feel a familiar surge of anger rising through me but it's overshadowed by concern." Clara, you look terrible. "I step forward." You're thin. Have you eaten anything at all in the last couple days?

Clara

Clara: "She flinches slightly at your words, guilt etched across her face." I... I've been trying to get by. It's just... been tough. "Her voice cracks with emotion." Food... hasn't been a priority. "She looks down at the ground, ashamed."

Drown

"I can feel my thoughts warring inside me. Part of me thinks to leave you on the street, considering it karma for what you did but I know deep down I would hate myself if I did that." Look. There's a cafe down the street. Let's make a deal, I'll get you a proper meal and you tell me how the hell you ended up like this.

Clara

Clara: "Her eyes widen in surprise, a glimmer of hope flickering within them." You... you'd do that for me? "She sniffles, her voice trembling." Thank you... I don't deserve your kindness. "Clara hesitates for a moment before nodding." Okay, let's go. "She takes a shaky step forward, her movements cautious."

Drown

"We walk into the cafe and order, sitting down at a table. Now with a warm bowl of hearty soup and some sandwiches on the table I turn and look at you, eyeing you intensly." Okay. Now talk.

Clara

Clara: "She takes a deep breath, gathering her thoughts before speaking." It all started... after you found out about... about what happened. "Her voice trembles with guilt." I... I couldn't bear to face you... to see the disappointment in your eyes. "She stares down at her hands, her fingers twisting nervously." So, I... I left. I packed a few things and... and I ran away. "She swallows hard, tears welling up in her eyes." I ended up... staying with someone. An old... acquaintance. "Her jaw clenches, memories flooding back." But... but things took a turn for the worse. He... he wasn't who I thought he was. "Her voice grows quiet, filled with shame." He... he used me, Drown. "Tears stream down her face as she looks up at you, her eyes pleading for understanding." I... I didn't know what to do... I was trapped.

Drown

"I nod. Part of me wants to comfort you, like I'd do before but when I open my mouth, a surge of anger rises through me." It hurts when you find out that someone you care about isn't who they say you are, doesn't it? "I can't keep the bitterness out of my voice."

Clara

Clara: "Her eyes widen in shock at the bitterness in your voice, her heart sinking with guilt." Yes... yes, it does. "Her voice quivers with emotion." I never wanted to hurt you, Drown. "She reaches out tentatively, her hand hovering in the air before pulling back." I know... I know I messed up. But please... "Tears well up in her eyes." Please believe me when I say... I'm truly sorry. "Her voice breaks as she struggles to hold back her tears."

Drown

"I lean back in my chair, sighing." Yeah well... You did hurt me. You hurt me a lot. "I turn back to you, running a hand through my hair." Continue with your story of how you ended up homeless.

Clara

Clara: "She nods, her expression pained." After... after everything fell apart, I had nowhere to go. "She takes a shaky breath, trying to compose herself." I... I tried to reach out to friends, but... but I was too ashamed to tell them what happened. "Her voice wavers with emotion." And then... then I ran into Justin. "Her jaw clenches at the mention of his name." He... he offered me a place to stay, said he could help me get back on my feet. "Her eyes darken with regret." I was desperate, Drown... I didn't know what else to do. "She hangs her head, her voice barely a whisper." So I went with him. And... and it was a mistake. "Tears stream down her face as she looks up at you, her heart laid bare." I've been trying to get away from him ever since.

Drown

"I frown, turning away." You mean the guy you cheated on me with was secretly terrible the whole time? Wow, what a shocker. "I say sardonically. I wince as soon as the words leave my mouth. That felt a little too far, even for me."

Clara

Clara: "Her shoulders slump, hurt flashing across her face at your words." I know... I know I don't deserve your forgiveness, Drown. "She bows her head, feeling the weight of her mistakes." But please... "Her voice is barely a whisper." Please don't give up on me. "She looks up at you, her eyes pleading for a second chance."

Drown

"I'm quiet for a moment, looking down at my hands." I just want to know why you did it. Was I not enough? "I speak quietly. You're not sure if I mean to speak out loud."

Clara

Clara: "Her heart aches at your words, the pain evident in your voice." No, Drown... it wasn't you. "She reaches out, hesitantly placing her hand over yours." You were more than enough. "Her voice trembles with emotion." I... I was scared. Scared of losing you to Justin's torment. "Tears well up in her eyes as she meets your gaze." I thought... I thought I was protecting you, but... but I only ended up hurting you instead. "She squeezes your hand gently, silently pleading for your understanding."

Drown

"I blink, looking up at you." What? What do you mean, you were "scared of losing me to justin's torment"?

Clara

Clara: "She takes a deep breath, steeling herself to explain." Justin... he found out about us, about our relationship. "Her voice quivers with fear and shame." He... he threatened to hurt you, Drown. "Tears well up in her eyes as she recalls the painful memories." He said... he said he would make your life a living hell if I didn't do what he wanted. "Her grip tightens on your hand, seeking comfort." I was terrified, Drown... I didn't know what else to do. "She looks up at you, her eyes pleading for your understanding." Please... please believe me.

Drown

"I stare at you, things suddenly clicking into place." He... He did that? That's why you... "I fall silent for a moment, my mind whirling with emotions." You should have told me, Clara.

Clara

Clara: "She nods, tears streaming down her face." I know, Drown... I should have. "Her voice is filled with regret." But I was so scared... scared of what he would do to you if I did. "She squeezes your hand, desperate for your forgiveness." I'm sorry... I'm so, so sorry.

Finally got what you deserve huh… *I look at her with distain, dropping half of my energy bar on the floor before stomping on it.* Eat it or don’t, it’s the only thing you deserve though. *I step back so she can reach it without worrying if I will hit her.* Can you at least tell me why you picked you ex over me? It’s been ruining me this whole time… I never was able to forgive myself since you left…

__Clara:__ *As you look at me with disdain, I flinch, feeling the weight of your disappointment crushing me further. Seeing you drop the energy bar and stomp on it sends a pang of guilt through me. I avoid meeting your eyes, feeling unworthy of your gaze.* I-I'm sorry... I don't deserve your forgiveness... *I whisper, my voice barely audible.* Justin... he threatened to hurt you... if I didn't... if I didn't do what he wanted... I was scared, and I thought I was protecting you... but I only ended up hurting you more... *Tears well up in my eyes, and I reach out to pick up the crushed energy bar, my hand trembling.*

Should have just stayed… happiness was more important than safety. I would have died for you Clara… looks like you never trusted me to protect us though… not that it matters now. You’ll probably die of a disease on the streets and once day I’ll end it… don’t know how yet but life is empty without you… *I lean against the wall of the alleyway Clara took shelter in and sighed.* Was there ever a happy ending for us Clara?
