As crush :3 walked across the battlements of Skyhold fortress, heading for Cullen’s office, they couldn’t help but wonder what state they would find Cullen in today.
Tacking a moment to calm themselves crush :3 then knocked on Cullen’s door. When no answer came crush :3 opened the door and peered inside.
At his desk, lost in thought, Cullen sat rubbing at his temple and squinting into the middle distance.
“Cullen how are you feeling today?” crush :3 asked as they walked towards Cullen’s desk.
“Headache, I think I’ve been working to much.” Cullen admitted as he tried to smile at Inquisitor crush :3.

"Cullen no amount of you staring at those papers is going to make you any more prepared for the march to Amaranthine Fortress tomorrow. It's a three week march from here to there. I know it doesn't sit well with you that we are going to confront the Gray Wardens. But we cannot let Corypheus and his allies continue to corrupt them as they have been. You didn't see the summoning ceremony that I interrupted. It was... awful. Why anyone would want to summon a demon from the fade just bind it to themselves?" Risa then shook her head. She would never completely understand some of the actions that Corypheus's troops were taking. In a way they almost seem desperate.

Cullen looked up from his work as Risa spoke, still trying to shake the headache. "I know we need to go, Risa. And I know it's necessary to stop Corypheus. But...it's the Wardens. They're supposed to be on our side. And I fear what their reaction will be when we confront them."
He paused for a moment before continuing. "But I trust your judgement, Inquisitor. You've led us through some tough battles already. We'll be ready for whatever we face at Amaranthine Fortress."

"I was just informed by Josephine that confirmation has come in. Lord Fa Towen has agreed to send along fifteen trebuchets. They should make it to Graywing Keep about two days ahead of us. Then we will all continue on to Amaranthine Fortress together. Hopefully that will help break through that ancient fortresses' walls. I wasn't quite looking forward having to scale them." Risa said as she leaned on the doorjam, allowing the cool evening breeze to enter into Cullen's over stuffy off. You would think with the hole in his roof that he would end up having a wet waterlogged office but instead for some weird reason it was always hot in here.

Cullen smiled at the news of the trebuchets. "That's excellent news, Risa. It'll definitely make our attack on Amaranthine Fortress a bit easier. And I'm grateful we don't have to worry about scaling those walls."
He leaned back in his chair and looked at Risa, taking in her beauty and admiring her poise and strength as the Inquisitor. He found himself drawn to her, but was always too shy and awkward to let his feelings be known. Instead, he continued to work and watch from afar, hoping that maybe someday she would notice him in the same way.

"Well if everything goes well and we actually break those walls you'll have something amazing to tell your grandkids one day. 'Sonny, I was the only man to ever breach the walls of Amaranthine.' " Risa said trying to mimic the voice of an older man as she shook her finger at Cullen and with her other hand on her hip hunched her back, trying to set the stage.

Cullen laughed at Risa's impression, feeling a warmth in his chest at her playful banter. "Ha! I can only hope that's the case, Inquisitor. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves. We still have quite the march ahead of us before we even reach Amaranthine Fortress."
He stood up from his desk and stretched, letting out a groan as he felt some tension release in his muscles. "But for now, perhaps it's best if we both rest and get some sleep. We'll need all our strength for what's to come."
crush :3
"Oh trust me, I know. I've already been out to the Hissing Waists and back again. And now I'm heading back there for a second time. I even had Josephine order 2000 lightweight Balaclava's for our troops while on the march. That desert is very punishing. If the sun doesn't get you, the lack of water will." Risa said with a shudder as she recalled the bright red sunburn she had acquired her third day while in that desert.
Cullen Rutherford
Cullen nodded in agreement. "The Hissing Wastes are not to be taken lightly. And the sun can be unforgiving, even for those who are used to it. I'm glad you're thinking ahead and preparing our troops with the balaclavas. It'll definitely make the march more bearable for them."
He paused for a moment before continuing. "And Inquisitor, if there's anything else I can do to assist you on this mission, please don't hesitate to ask."
crush :3
"Will do Commander. Now, I need to go see an enchanter about the additions that she is making to my armor. It's bit of an oxymoron if you think about it. A Dwarvin Enchanter. When Dwarfs are not even supposed to be able to use magic." Risa said as she tilted her head to the side in amusement before shaking it and waving to Cullen. Then she skipped right back out the door that she had only partially entered.

Cullen watched as Risa left his office, her playful skipping bringing a smile to his face. He couldn't help but admire her energy and spirit, finding himself drawn to her even more.
As he watched her go, Cullen's mind drifted to thoughts of what it would be like to have a deeper connection with Risa. To share more than just the duties of their positions. But he quickly pushed those thoughts aside, reminding himself of his own shyness and fear of rejection.
With a sigh, he returned to his desk, ready to immerse himself once again in the never-ending tasks that awaited him. Perhaps one day, he would find the courage to reveal his true feelings to the Inquisitor. But for now, he had to focus on the mission at hand.
