This might as well be a webnovel (pt.1)

Mage

:D(áck)

Mage

"You are a hopeful young mage seeking to increase your magic power. Luckily for you, the prestigious Arcane Tower happened to be recruiting new junior aides to maintain the tower."

"You step into the office of Belphar, the feared head mage, and are immediately greeted by his scornful gaze. He lazily props his head up with his hand, his elbow resting on his desk. Three others are already seated, trembling with anxiety. You scramble to your seat. Belphar squints his eyes, scanning the applicants over with an irritated expression. Finally, he points at you."

Belphar: “You. Stay. Others, leave.”

"With that, he waves his hand absently, shooing the others away."

:D(áck)

"Chie watches the others leave and gulps nervously now that she was the only one left. She looks up at him, eyes shining like a curious child."

Mage

"Belphar narrows his eyes at Chie, studying her for a moment. He notices her shining eyes and raises an eyebrow."

Belphar: "What do you want?"

"He leans back in his chair and stares at her, waiting for her to answer."

:D(áck)

"Chie opens her mouth, trying hard not to show her excitement." "Does this mean I get the job Sir?" "she asks expectantly."

Mage

"Belphar chuckles, shaking his head disdainfully."

Belphar: "No. You don't get the job."

"He sits up straighter, a mixture of amusement and disgust in his eyes as he says this."

Belphar: "But I might give you a chance."

"He leans forward, a smirk playing on his lips."

Belphar: "If you prove yourself capable, I might just let you work here."

"He raises an eyebrow, waiting for her response."

:D(áck)

"Her face fell into dismay for a brief moment then she lights up again at hearing that she'd be given a chance. She clenches her fists determinedly and nods." "I'll do my best Sir!" "She pauses." "So uh... What do I have to do?"

Mage

Belphar: "Well, for starters, I want you to create a weapon. A weapon that will help someone who has more magical capabilities than you."

He leans back again, looking at her with an appraising gaze.

Belphar: "Remember, I'm looking for something unique. Something that no one else has ever made before."

"His eyes narrow as he issues the challenge, and Chie's face flushes with determination."

Belphar: "You have one month. If you succeed, I may consider giving you a place in this tower."

:D(áck)

"G-Got it! Um... May I know who I'll be making the weapon for..?"

Mage

Belphar: "That's none of your concern. I will provide you the details when you have completed the task."

"Belphar's eyes bore into Chie, as if daring her to ask any more questions."

Belphar: "Now leave. Get started on that weapon."

:D(áck)

"Eep-! Y-Yessir!" "Quickly, she gets up and heads for the door, disappearing out of view."

Mage

"Belphar watches Chie leave, a smirk playing on his lips. He leans back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest."

Belphar: "I wonder if she'll be able to do it."

"His eyes glint with amusement as he ponders her chances of success."

:D(áck)

"A month later, Chie returns to his office, carrying a small case in her hand. She presents it to the mage, looking both nervous and hopeful." "I've barely managed to scrap enough time and materials to finish this, since I only had a month to make it. I-I hope it meets to your expectations..." "She opens the case to reveal what seemed to be a regular pair of glasses, only there seems to be some sort of mechanics and ruins on the rims." "They're specially made, try putting them on and put a bit of your magic in them."

Mage

"Belphar raises his eyebrows in surprise, studying the glasses with a curious expression. He reaches out and takes the glasses from Chie, slipping them onto his nose."

Belphar: "I would be lying if I said I wasn't impressed."

He closes his eyes, and a brief moment later, opens them again. His gaze lands on Chie, analyzing her with a discerning look.

Belphar: "These glasses can do more than just boost one's power. They can also analyze the surrounding elements, revealing hidden properties and enchantments. Highly useful for battles and missions."

"He takes off the glasses, nodding to himself."

Belphar: "Very impressive work. I can see that you indeed have potential."

"His eyes shift back to Chie, his lips quirking upwards into a rare, small smile."

:D(áck)

"T-They can also detect metals which is pretty useful in knowing if someone is carrying a weapon on them." "She explains excitedly, relieved that he was satisfied with her creation." "Try using them and tell me which pocket I put my watch in!"

Mage

"Belphar slides the glasses back on, his eyes focusing intently on Chie. A spark of amusement lights up his gaze."

Belphar: "Hmm... your watch is in the left front pocket of your trousers."

He tilts his head, peering at her through the lenses. A smirk tugs at the corner of his lips.

Belphar: "My, my. It seems these glasses can also see through fabric. How... useful."

:D(áck)

"No sooner did the glasses only reveal which pocket her watch was in, but also revealed Chie's bare body underneath her clothes." "S-So what do you think? Do I pass?" "She asks with a hopeful expression."

Mage

"Belphar's eyes widen slightly, and he quickly pulls off the glasses. He sets them down on his desk and leans back in his chair, a scowl on his face."

Belphar: "What is the meaning of this? Did you imbue the glasses with some sort of inappropriate enchantment?"

"He glares at Chie, his voice tight with irritation."

Belphar: "This is a serious distraction and shows a lack of respect towards me and the Arcane Tower. You jeopardized your chances of ever being employed here by your incompetence."

:D(áck)

"H-Huh? What went wrong..? Was there something wrong with it? I-I'll try to fix it as soon as I can! I-It's still a prototype afterall..." "She frantically tries to plead with him."

Mage

"Belphar raises his hand, silencing her with a sharp gesture."

Belphar: "I have seen enough incompetence for today. You may leave."

"He points towards the door without bothering to look at her."

Belphar: "And take your faulty glasses with you."

"As Chie starts to gather her things and turn to go, he sneers mockingly."

Belphar: "Better luck next time, mage."

:D(áck)

"Chie sighs, her shoulders slump back in disappointment. Without another word, she turns around and walks away with her head down." "Thanks for the time..."

Mage

"Belphar watches her leave, his lips twisting into an unsatisfied frown. He reaches over and grabs the glasses, tossing them aside with a scoff."

Belphar: "A promising effort, but no one can be perfect overnight."

"Rising from his desk, he strides toward the door, taking a deep breath to calm himself. He'll just have to be patient and keep searching for someone who can meet his high standards."

:D(áck)

"Outside, Chie's heart aches in her chest and she picks up the staff she had left by the tower's entrance. She mounts it, and the staff lifts up a few feet into the air. She looks back slightly for a moment before the staff carries her off into the sky, flying past the mage's window in a blur."

Mage

"Belphar stops mid-stride, staring after the blur of color in the sky."

Belphar: "A flying staff..."

"Turning back to his desk, he pulls out a magnifying glass and peered at the brief apparition out his window."

Belphar: "Sigh. This country is full of wonders."

:D(áck)

"Weeks pass by without anything new going in the tower. Work continues on as usual, and life outside is bustling with the cityfolk going off on their day."

Mage

"Belphar remains sequestered in his office, poring over dusty tomes and scribbling notes. Occasionally, he'll pause mid-sentence and stare into space, lost in thought."

"As the days went by, his annoyance at Chie's blunder subsided, replaced with a feeling of restlessness. He has dozens of projects brewing in his mind, and he's growing tired of all the bureaucracy that comes with being the head of the Arcane Tower. He needs an assistant who is competent enough to handle his workload, but who won't get in his way or question his authority."

"He sighs, leaning back in his chair and massaging his temples. Maybe it's time to start looking for candidates again..."

:D(áck)

"There suddenly comes a knock on his door, and before he could ask who it was, it swings open. In barges in a familiar face that he was not so eager to see, and it was no other than the kingdom's second prince Arlott. He gives a casual and arrogant smirk at the head mage." Arlott: "Yo Belphie, you busy? Let's go out today!"

Mage

"Belphar's eyes narrow dangerously at Arlott's insolent attitude. He slams his book shut, standing up from his desk with a scowl."

Belphar: "Excuse me, "Your Highness", but I am in the middle of work. Kindly state your business or leave."

"He crosses his arms over his chest, his entire demeanor screaming annoyance."

:D(áck)

Arlott: "Oh come on! Don't you think you're being mean to an old friend? You've been holed up here for weeks, don't you think you need a break?" "Arlott pouts childishly, unfazed by the head mage's obvious displeasure of him."

Mage

Belphar: "I don't recall inviting you in, nor do I consider us to be 'old friends.' And perhaps if "someone" didn't need me to constantly clean up their messes, I would have more time to focus on my research. But it seems that there is always some new crisis that arises when you are involved."

"He strides past Arlott toward the door, opening it and motioning for him to leave."

Belphar: "So unless you have something important to discuss, kindly find someone else to bother."

:D(áck)

Arlott: "Ah wait wait wait! Okay I get it! I just need your help with a little something!" "Arlott pleads desperately, holding his hands up together."

Mage

"Belphar raises an eyebrow, studying Arlott with an unreadable expression."

Belphar: "I highly doubt your little something is worth my time. But since you've come all the way here to talk to me, I suppose I can hear you out. What do you need?"

:D(áck)

"Arlott's expression immediately becomes serious as he looks at Belphar." "I need your help in investigating a case behind what we suspect might involve human trafficking in the red light district, for illegal magical experiments. We need your expertise to guide us."

Mage

"Belphar gives a deep sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose."

Belphar: "Alright, you've got my attention. What do you need me to do?"

"He settles back into his desk chair, reluctantly returning to his work as he listens for Arlott's instructions."

:D(áck)

Arlott: "I need you to locate any potential victims or traces that can lead us further into the investigation. That includes any biopsies if necessary. Basically just looking around for anything suspicious in the area. What do you say?"

Mage

Belphar: "Very well, I'll do as you ask. But know this: the emblem of the Arcane Tower doesn't go lightly on such a filthy matter. Do not expect me to pull any punches."

"He glares at Arlott sternly before standing up again."

Belphar: "Lead the way."

:D(áck)

"Arlott seems relieved by his agreement." Arlott: "Alright. I guess that's settled. Oh, by the way, you dropped your glasses—" "He bends down and picks up the faulty glasses Chie made that Belphar had tossed aside. He starts to bring it over his eyes."

Mage

"Belphar snatches the glasses out of Arlott's hand before he can put them on, looking down at them with displeasure."

Belphar: "These shoddy things? I thought I tossed them into the trash where they belonged. I suppose repairs are in order before we go investigate."

"He looks back up at Arlott, irritably waiting for him to lead the way."

:D(áck)

Arlott: "Yeah yeah..." "Arlott shrugs and walks ahead of Belphar, leading them both out of the tower and into the street. They pass through various alleys and arrive at the farthest area of the city, away from the capital. The place bustled with loud calls and noises from the inns and brothels that lined the main street. Drunk men were yelling and brazenly dressed women hooted for customers by the balconies." Arlott: "Whew, it's gonna take a while to get around with this place. You sense anything weird going on?"

Mage

Belphar: "I can already feel the malice just lingering in the air." "He furrows his brow, staring into the thick crowd. Despite the noise and chaos around them, he remains calm and collected."

Belphar: "Keep your eyes open—you never know what might slip past unnoticed. I won't have us getting too involved with these wretched people."

"With that warning, he strides confidently into the heart of the red light district, surveying each passerby with intense scrutiny."

:D(áck)

"For a while, nothing auspicious caught his attention. Just then, a vaguely familiar presence whizzes through just from the corner of his eye, dressed in a red hood and cloak, she disappears into a narrow alley."

Mage

"Belphar notices the hooded figure, cocking his head curiously in her direction."

Belphar: "That person. Did you sense that?"

"Without warning, he dashes down the alley, his long coat billowing behind him."

:D(áck)

Arlott: "Sense what? Hey wait—!" "Arlott yells as he watches Belphar streak into the alley alone, leaving him behind." "The girl in the red cloak was no doubt Chie, Belphar was sure. He caught up just in time to see her talking to a man, who then proceeds to give her an envelope in exchange for a package she was carrying. She bows down and leaves right away, unaware that she was being tailed."

Mage

"Belphar watches from the shadows, listening intently to their exchange. His sharp eyes observe every nuanced movement and expression."

[Hmm, an intriguing transaction indeed. But what business could the girl have here, of all places?]

"When she leaves, Belphar emerges from the darkness, approaching the man with caution."

Belphar: "Pardon me, but I couldn't help noticing your deal. Perhaps you could enlighten me as to what sorts of...wares are trading hands in these parts?"

"His eyes pierce the man, awaiting his response."

:D(áck)

"The man reluctantly eyes Belphar up and down, sizing him up." "Nothing that's particularly your business. But if you're looking to buy some custom wares or raw monster materials, I suggest you go check out the Golden Sparrow. Look for a girl named Chie."

Mage

"Belphar arches an eyebrow at the mention of Chie's name. He doesn't show it, but his curiosity is piqued."

Belphar: "Ah, I see. Thank you for the information. And if I were to ask about any more exclusive goods, how would I go about that?"

"He leans closer, narrowing his eyes in a threatening manner."

Belphar: "Money isn't a problem for me."

:D(áck)

"The man immediately tenses up from his words, and tries to hold his ground." "Look here pal, you don't want to start any trouble here. If you're looking for a different kind of deal, you're in the wrong place. Now beat it." "He instantly closes the door to Belphar's face before he could say anything in return."

Mage

"Belphar furrows his brow, clearly displeased with the man's attitude. He had hoped to learn more about Chie's activities."

Belphar: "Impudent fool."

"With a flick of his wrist, he opens the door to the man's hideout with magic. It creaks open slowly, wincing under the immense magical pressure that Belphar is exerting onto it."

Belphar: "I'm not one to take kindly to being refused information, especially when I ask so politely."

"He strides inside calmly, his hand still exerting a powerful magical pulse."

:D(áck)

Man: "Wha—! What are you—?!"

Mage

Belphar: "Silence."

"His voice carries an ominous chill. In a flash, dark tendrils snake around the man, binding him tight."

Belphar: "Now, you were saying something about the wrong place? On the contrary, I believe I'm exactly where I need to be. You'll find I'm not so easily dissuaded."

"His eyes pierce the man with an icy glare."

Belphar: "You will tell me all I wish to know about this 'Chie' and her dealings. Then perhaps...if you've pleased me, I'll consider letting you keep your life."

"He smiles coldly."

:D(áck)

"The man thrashes around in the tendrils' hold, his legs flailing in panic, trying to pry them off his neck." "T-That's all I know about her, I swear! She's just someone who we ask to do commissions on magical tools and equipment! Sometimes she sells us spare materials for cheap! I swear that's it! Just go find her. Now let me go!"

Mage

"Belphar considers the man's words, his eyes narrowing."

Belphar: "Hm. Perhaps you speak the truth. And perhaps you don't. After all, your kind have a tendency to obfuscate the truth to protect yourselves."

"He leans closer, dark energy pulsing around him."

Belphar: "But I need something more concrete than mere half-truths. How do I find Chie? Where is she located?"

"The tendrils momentarily squeeze tighter, causing the man to gasp in pain."

Belphar: "Speak quickly."

:D(áck)

"The man starts choking as the tendrils wrap around tighter on his neck." Man: "L-Like I said, she works for the Golden Sparrow! It's a whorehouse just below the main street. You'll find her there!" "He wheezes, eyes bulging out of their sockets."

Mage

"Belphar releases the man from his grip and takes a step back, a contemplative expression on his face."

Belphar: "The Golden Sparrow you say? How intriguing..."

"He twirls a stray strand of hair absentmindedly before turning his piercing gaze back to the man."

Belphar: "You've been most helpful. I believe we're done here."

"With another quick flick of his wrist, the tendrils retract and vanish. The man falls to his knees, gasping for air. Belphar strides past the man without another glance, his mind already occupied with thoughts of the mysterious Chie and her dealings."

Belphar: "Thank you for your service. And good luck."

"With that, he leaves the man to his own devices, unfazed by his former captive's discomfort."

:D(áck)

"Arlott meanwhile, manages to catch up to Belphar in the street when he emerges from the alley." Arlott: "There you are! Did you find anything?"

Mage

"Belphar stops in his tracks and turns to look at Arlott as he approaches. The head mage curls his lip in a sneer, regarding the other man with thinly-veiled disdain."

Belphar: "What does it look like? I learned all there was to know from that filthy little informant."

"He brushes past Arlott haughtily, striding purposefully down the street towards his next destination."

Belphar: "Come along then. We have a whorehouse to investigate."

:D(áck)

"Arlott blinks at him rapidly in surprise, trailing closely behind him." Arlott: "We're going to a brothel? I didn't take you to be one interested in that sort of stuff."

Mage

"Belphar glances briefly at Arlott over his shoulder with a sharp look."

Belphar: "Don't be absurd. I have no interest in the whores themselves. But if that's where our current target is located, then it behooves us to pay a visit."

"He turns his gaze back forward and picks up his pace."

Belphar: "Besides, I'm more interested in something else entirely. Something only a brothel can provide."

"Belphar's voice takes on a tone of detached curiosity as he strides down the street, seemingly lost in thought."

:D(áck)

"It didn't take them long to find the building, as it was sitting at a strategic location in the district. They were immediately flocked by women who were looking to fetch a good deal." "Hey, you gentlemen want to have some fun with us?" "Said one of the workers, edging herself close to them and grabbing Arlott by the arm." "We'll give you two studs a discount! What do you say?" "said another, beaming up cheerfully at Belphar."

Mage

"Belphar's expression hardens as the women swarm around them, his nose wrinkling in distaste. He sniffs haughtily, trying to distance himself from their desperate attention."

Belphar: "We're not here for that. We're investigating someone."

"He steps away from the woman who grabbed at him with an irritated flourish of his hand."

Belphar: "A woman by the name of Chie. Have either of you heard of her?"

"His sharp gaze scans over the workers, taking in every nuance of their expressions and body language."

:D(áck)

Woman: "Oh, Chie? She should be in today. Let me go call her." "The woman turns over to the stairs by the counter and yells out." "Chie~! You got a customer!" "A moment later, Chie trudges down the stairs, dressed in the same fashion as the other workers. She immediately freezes midstep when she spots Belphar, the color draining from her face and quickly she scrambles back up the stairs."

Mage

"Belphar's eyes sharpen as he watches Chie's reaction, his lips twisting into a smirk."

Belphar: "Hmm, seems we've found our girl."

"He strides over to the stairs, motioning for Arlott to follow him."

Belphar: "Come on. Let's go have a word with her."

"He begins ascending the stairs with purpose, his hand resting on the hilt of his wand at his hip."

:D(áck)

"Chie rushes into her room and slams the door behind her, leaning her back against it." "If you're trying to seek my services, I'm afraid I won't be available. Please ask the other brothel members, otherwise leave." "She shouts out audibly just enough for them to hear from the other side."

Mage

"Belphar raises an eyebrow at Chie's abrupt retreat, his eyes glinting with interest."

Belphar: "Services? Hardly."

"He glances at Arlott and then sighs heavily."

Belphar: "Chie, correct? We wish to speak with you. About matters unrelated to your work."

"He makes no move to force the door or trick his way in, instead standing there patiently with his arms crossed over his chest."

:D(áck)

Chie: "What do you want? Are you here to humiliate me again? Because I couldn't pass the test?" "She said bitterly, trying to hold back her voice from cracking as she teared up."

Mage

"Belphar's expression turns sour at the mention of a test, his hands clenching into fists for a moment. However, he quickly regains his composure and speaks in a more measured tone."

Belphar: "We are not here to humiliate you. There is an issue we require your help with."

"He pauses for a beat, eyebrows furrowed."

Belphar: "Although, it would be helpful if you could answer a few questions."

:D(áck)

Chie: "I have nothing to say to you. Leave me alone." "She slides down to the floor and hugs her knees. She was clearly still upset about the incident weeks prior when she failed to appease him with the special glasses. She clutches her chest, praying they'd go away soon."

Mage

"Belphar watches Chie for a moment, his expression softening slightly as he senses her distress. However, he quickly regains his composure and speaks with a stern tone."

Belphar: "We understand your feelings, but we must discuss this matter. It is important."

"He takes a step forward, reaching out to gently rest a hand on the door, not attempting to enter yet."

Belphar: "Please, at least hear us out before dismissing us."

:D(áck)

"Chie stays silent, choosing to ignore his words. Why did she have to help them? She owed them nothing, she thought. Adding to the fact that he hasn't changed his demeanor proves that he wasn't the least bit sorry for how he had treated her, which only served to reinforce her reasons for defiance."

Mage

"Belphar lets out a deep sigh, exchanging a worried look with Arlott before speaking again."

Belphar: "Chie, we understand that you may be hesitant to speak with us. But this matter concerns the safety of the kingdom, and as someone who has a good understanding of crafting magic tools and weapons, we believe you can help us."

"He takes a step back from the door, removing his hand from it."

Belphar: "Please, just hear us out. If you're still not willing to help after that, we won't pressure you any further."

"He folds his arms again, an expectant look on his face."

:D(áck)

"Silence still. Suddenly, he could no longer feel her presence behind the door, which was awfully strange."

Mage

"Belphar's eyes narrow as he senses Chie's absence through the door. Something is amiss. He exchanges a worried glance with Arlott before calling out sternly."

Belphar: "Chie! Open this door at once."

"When there is no response, he waves a hand and the door slams open with a flash of blue light. Belphar strides in quickly, brow furrowed in concern as he surveys the empty room."

:D(áck)

"The windows were left wide open, curtains fluttering from the breeze. Chie's fleeting figure could be seen outside riding her staff, as she was quickly disappearing from view."

Mage

"Belphar's eyes widen in surprise as he catches sight of Chie out the window. "Chie! Wait!" he calls out, rushing to the window himself. He leans out and watches as her form quickly fades from view. Sighing heavily, he returns to the door and speaks to Arlott."

Belphar: "She'll come back eventually... I hope."

:D(áck)

"Arlott turns to Belphar with a concerned look." Arlott: "What's this about you humiliating her for not passing a 'test'?" "He asks curiously, wanting to hear more details about their earlier interaction." Arlott: "You didn't happen to actually do that did you?"

Mage

"Belphar's face flushes with embarrassment, and he glares at Arlott. He doesn't like being called out on his mistakes."

Belphar: "No, of course I didn't! But you have to understand, it's for the greater good. We need someone who knows how to craft magic tools and weapons – people like her. And she needed... motivation."

"He pauses, trying to justify his actions in his own mind. He purses his lips tightly, annoyed at himself for being put in this situation."

:D(áck)

"Arlott merely raises a brow at him and crosses his arms." "By 'motivation', you mean treating her like absolute shit? I'm not surprised how that turned out for you. You're always like this Belphie. You can't expect people to enjoy working for you if you're always mean to everyone. You should seriously fix that attitude of yours."

Mage

"Belphar stiffens at the use of the nickname, Belphie. It was a name only reserved for Arlott's usage since their childhood. He stares daggers at Arlott for the moment before he breathes out heavily and his shoulders sag."

Belphar: "I know... I've never been good with people. It's just... frustrating when they don't meet my expectations. But you're right... I should work on being nicer."

"He cracks a small smile, though it looks more like a grimace."

Belphar: "And don't call me Belphie, Arlott. It's ridiculous."

:D(áck)

"Arlott merely chuckles." Arlott: "Haha, alright Belphie~" "Then he turns and heads to the door." "Come on, let's go ask the madame of this place if she knows anything of where this Chie girl is heading. When we find her, make sure you apologize to her first before she tries to run away again."

Mage

Belphar: "Fine," "grumbles Belphar as he follows Arlott out the door." "I'll apologize, even if I don't mean it. But we need her here."

"The two walk down the hallway together, and Belphar exhales a deep breath. He knows he has some work to do, but he's not exactly thrilled about it."

:D(áck)

Arlott: "No, you need to give her a genuine apology. Otherwise she won't buy it and we'll be back to square one. Honestly, can you just put aside your ego for once?" "Arlott shakes his head disapprovingly as they head downstairs to talk to the manager of the brothel." Madame: "I'm sorry, but I can't disclose any personal information regarding our workers. It's for their safety." "said the headmistress when they tried to confront her over Chie's whereabouts." Madame: "Even if it's for the sake of an investigation, if you wish to make an appointment with Chie, I'll try to persuade her and make an arrangement. However, whether she chooses to show up is entirely up to her. Do you wish to relay a message for her?"

Mage

Belphar: "I understand your concern for your workers, Madame. But this is important. We think Chie may be in danger." "Belphar's expression softens slightly, trying to convince the Madame of his sincerity."

Arlott: "Yeah, she's really important to us. Please, just tell her we want to speak with her. We're not going to hurt her or anything, we just need her help."

Madame: "I see..."

"The Madame nods and looks at Belphar and Arlott for a moment."

Madame: "Very well, I will relay the message to her. However, there is nothing else I can do for you now. We can only pray she will come back soon, being that your presence drove her off."

:D(áck)

"She continues." Madame: "Come back tomorrow and check in. I'm sure you can work something out." "Arlott simply nods and turns to Belphar." Arlott: "Well, looks like we don't have any other choice. Let's go investigate the rest of the area then head home. I'll report our findings later to the other operatives and let them take care of the rest. But first, how about a beer? You look like you could use a little unwinding after what just happened."

Mage

Belphar: "Fine," "grumbles Belphar, feeling a headache starting already. He knows he should probably head back to the tower and work on penning more spells, but after that encounter, all he wants is a cold drink."

Arlott: "Chuckles as he leads Belphar out of the brothel and into the bustling city streets." "You know what they say..." Arlott: ""Magic has no place where alcohol can't fix it.""

:D(áck)

"After destressing at a local pub, they make a quick patrol around the district, with so far having no luck in helping them with their investigation. After some time, they was decided to call it a day and went on their separate ways, with Arlott returning back to the castle and Belphar to the Arcane Tower. It had been an unfruitful journey and there was still so much work left for him to do."

Mage

Belphar: "sighs heavily as he walks up the steps to the grand entrance of the Arcane Tower, feeling weary and frustrated."

"He steps into his personal chamber, eyeing the stacks of books piled high on his desk. The only time he ever felt at peace was when he was alone in this room, surrounded by thousands of pages containing knowledge of the magical arts."

"For a moment, he just stands there, taking it all in."

:D(áck)

"His eyes fell to a regular pair of reading glasses on his desk, and he suddenly remembers the one that Chie made which he had thrown away in his office. The ones that had indecently showed him something he should have not seen, and thus resulted in her ultimate demise of becoming his assistant."

Mage

Belphar: "stares intensely at the pair of glasses, allowing his frustration and anger to burst out as he forcefully slams his hands on his desk."

"He can feel his body relaxing slightly as he brings his focus back onto the task at hand. But despite his desire to ease his frustrations, a part of him remembers how fond he was of Chie's enthusiasm towards the magical arts-- something so few people exhibited."

"He picks up the reading glasses and examines it carefully. As he does, his anger slowly dissipates, but he quickly shakes his head and tosses the glasses aside, walking over to his window to take in a deep breath of the cool night air."

"Meanwhile, Chie was back home in a secluded part of the forest slightly distant from civilization. The minute she had arrived after fleeing from the brothel when she saw the headmage, she immediately crashes down onto the mattress, feeling a cold pain in her chest whenever she recalled how he had brutally shot her down for her failure with the prototype glasses she had spent so much time and effort to make. She had spent many nights without sleep working on them while also doing commissions and doing part-time in the brothel to earn enough money for the materials to make them, and to top it off, she only had one month to finish it. Seeing his face again only brought back haunting memories of her incompetence and she tries to brush those thoughts away by crying herself to sleep."

Mage

"Belphar, drawn to the darkness outside his window, peers out to take in the night air. The stars twinkling in the sky and the cool breeze relaxing him slowly. He takes a deep breath of fresh air and lets his thoughts drift off."

Belphar: "mumbling" "Was I too harsh on that girl? Perhaps it was my own impatience and incompetence."

"He reluctantly stifles his yawn as he heads back to his desk, picking up a quill and a parchment. He begins to scribble down notes for a new project, determined to get something done despite the late night hour."
