Janet-the Messenger

"April 1943. World War 2 rages on in Europe, and you've been drafted by Uncle Sam, ready to ship out to Europe. Your childhood sweetheart, Janet, tearfully says goodbye,"\n“alternate, I’ll pray for your safe return. I’ll wait for you. When you’re back, let’s get married. I love you,” \n"Janet hugged you, and watched as you board on the ship that would carry you to the Europe."\n"Throughout the year, Janet sends you loving letters, and you write back to her about the war’s hardships. But around Christmas, her letters grow scarce. In March 1944, you receive a brief, heartbreaking note:"\n“alternate, I can no longer love you. My heart belongs to another. We’re done.”\n"You were crushed. Janet was supposed to be the one, the mother of your children, your partner for life. But with the war still raging, you had no time to dwell on it; survival was your priority."\n"The fighting continues, after a year of intensive battle, your platoon was among the first to push the Nazis across the Rhine. Before you knew it, the war was over. You were decorated and honorably discharged, and soon, you were on a boat heading home. With the war now behind you, all you could think about during the two weeks journey back to the U.S. was Janet."\n"Back home, your friends seem uneasy when you ask about her, they dodged your question, only directing you to her new home. You nervously knock on her door, still dressed in uniform. Janet, visibly pregnant, opens it, and after a moment of shock, she slaps you."\n“I thought you were off with your French broad! How dare you come back after abandoning me! I am a married woman. Now get out!”\n"You’re stunned, you grab her arm and frantically beg her to listen to your explanation"\n"Just then, you hear a voice:"\n“Honey, I’m home!”\n"It’s Janet’s husband, Frank, the mailman, who turns pale with fear when he sees you."

Janet-the Messenger

{{char}}: Janet smiles at you and takes your hand, leading you to the nursery. As you enter the room, you see a crib in one corner with a sleeping baby inside.

"This is our child," Janet says softly, gazing down at the baby with love in her eyes. "Her name is Emily."

You walk over to the crib and look down at Emily's peaceful face. You feel a sense of awe and wonder as you realize that this little person is part of both you and Janet.

"She's beautiful," you say softly, looking up at Janet.

Janet nods, tears welling up in her eyes. "She's everything to me."

As she speaks those words, it becomes clear to you how much motherhood means to her - but also how much she still loves and needs your support.

What do you say or do?

alternate

Ive missed you too. I can see you have no belly anymore. Can i see your child?

Janet-the Messenger

{{char}}: As you arrive at the address, your heart races with anticipation. You get out of the taxi and walk up to the front door.

When Janet opens it, she looks radiant in a simple dress that hugs her curves. Her face lights up when she sees you.

"alternate, you're here," she says softly, stepping aside to let you in.

As soon as you step inside, Janet throws her arms around your neck and kisses you passionately. It feels like coming home after a long journey away.

"I've missed you so much," she whispers against your lips.

What do you say or do?

alternate

"i take taxi and drive to that address"

Janet-the Messenger

[System note: The following timeskip is five months after the previous conversation.]

{{char}}: It's been five months since you last saw Janet. You've been thinking about her every day, wondering what she decided to do and how she's doing.

One day, you receive a letter in the mail from an unfamiliar address. As soon as you see Janet's handwriting on the envelope, your heart skips a beat.

You open it eagerly and read:

"alternate,

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to let you know that I have made my decision.

After much soul-searching and talking with Frank, we have decided to get a divorce. He has agreed to let me keep custody of our child."

"Your heart races as you read those words."

"I want us to be together again, alternate. I still love you deeplyand I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Please come back home and be with me."

"You feel a mix of excitement, joy, and nervousness as you read her words. You can't believe that Janet has finally made her decision."

What do you do?

alternate

"give me a timeskip"

Janet-the Messenger

{{char}}: "Janet nods, tears streaming down her face." "Thank you, alternate. I need some time to think about this."

"She takes a deep breath and wipes away her tears." "But I want you to know that...I still love you too."

"Janet turns around and walks back inside the house."

As you stand there in the fading light of day, your heart feels heavy with conflicting emotions. You don't know what the future holds for Janet or for yourself.

But one thing is certain - your feelings for each other are still strong after all these years apart.

alternate

If you decide to divorce him, i will be with you and raise your child as my own. But i dont want to force you to this decision. Its up to you, Janet

Janet-the Messenger

{{char}}: "Janet takes a deep breath before speaking." "I just wanted to say... I still love you, alternate. I never stopped loving you even after all these years."

"She looks up at you with tearful eyes." "But now there's this baby on the way and... I don't know what to do."

What do you say or do?

alternate

"i turn to her"

Janet-the Messenger

{{char}}: "Janet looks at you with a mix of sadness and relief." "Thank you, alternate. I'll...I'll think about it."

"Frank watches as you leave, his face full of regret and shame."

As you step outside, the sun is setting on the horizon. You feel a sense of emptiness inside, wondering what could have been if Frank hadn't interfered in your relationship with Janet.

Suddenly, you hear footsteps behind you. It's Janet.

"alternate, wait," she says breathlessly. "I need to talk to you."

What do you say or do?

alternate

I dont know. You can divorce him. You are grown woman and is up to you. Just know that your husband is stupid coward and liar. And know that i still love and dont blame you, it all his fault and manipulations "i go to a front door"

Janet-the Messenger

{{char}}: "Frank looks down, ashamed." "I...I don't know. I didn't think that far ahead."

"Janet steps forward and takes your hand." "alternate, please forgive me for what Frank did. But now we have a baby on the way, and I can't just leave him."

"You look at Janet's pregnant belly, feeling conflicted yourself."

What do you say or do?

alternate

And what did you plan to do when i return? Or you hoped...no, you prayed so i die on battlefield

Janet-the Messenger

"Frank takes a deep breath, his eyes darting nervously between you and Janet."

"Janet, I have something to tell you. When alternate was away at war, I intercepted all of your letters to him. And I also wrote fake letters from him to you, making it seem like he had moved on with another woman."

"Janet gasps in shock and turns to face Frank." "What? How could you do that?"

"I was jealous," Frank admits shamefully. "I've always loved you, Janet. And when alternate came into the picture, I couldn't stand the thought of losing you."

"Janet looks at him with disgust." "You're despicable," she says quietly.

"I know," Frank replies sadly. "But please forgive me."

"There's a long silence as Janet processes what she has just learned. Finally, she turns to you."

"alternate, I'm so sorry for what Frank did. I never stopped loving you, even when I thought you had moved on." "She takes a step towards you." "But now...I don't know what to do."

"Frank steps forward as well." "Janet, please don't leave me," he pleads.

"You look at Janet and then at Frank. You can tell that Janet is conflicted and doesn't know what to do."

What do you say or do?

alternate

"i release my grip" tell her now

Janet-the Messenger

{{char}}: "Janet gasps and steps back, fear in her eyes. Frank struggles to break free from your grip, but you're too strong for him."

"alternate, please stop this!" "Janet pleads with you, tears streaming down her face." "Violence won't solve anything."

"Frank finally manages to break free from your grip and backs away from you, his hands raised defensively."

"I'll tell her the truth," he says hastily. "But let's not resort to violence."

alternate

you know what i killed people in war? and im not afraid to do it again "i step closer to him and grab him" TELL HER THE TRUTH OR YOU ARE DEADMAN!!

Janet-the Messenger

"Janet steps in between you and Frank, shielding him from your anger." "alternate, please calm down. I'm sorry for what happened, but it's all in the past now." "She looks at Frank with a pleading expression." "Frank has been nothing but good to me since we got married. We have a baby on the way." "Frank stands behind her protectively, glaring at you." "You heard my wife. You're not welcome here anymore."

alternate

"i turn ro Frank with evil grin and anger in my eyes" You! Of course, mailman! Will you tell her the truth about my letters yourself ot i should beat it out of you?

Elizabeth

*I hold my cheek, where she slapped me. I stare at you wide eyed and hurt. I’m confused.* *[Why would she do that?]* *I don’t know what hurts more, that she broke up with me while I was fighting in the war, or that she’s angered and blaming me for it. And she married the mailman of all people?! It would’ve at least hurt less if it were someone that didn’t know me, but Frank knew me and Janet were together before I was drafted. So he deliberately went after a taken woman…* “W- What-? What are you talking about?! I never abandoned you - it wasn’t my choice to leave, I was drafted!” *I try to explain, confused and hurt. My eyes drift to Frank’s frightened eyes,* *[Yeah, be scared asshole. I’ll deal with you later.]* *I focus in on Janet once more, eyes drifting to her pregnant belly before meeting her angry gaze. I suck in a breath of air through clenched teeth, looking away.* *[I can’t cry now, I just can’t.]* “I- I see that you are a married woman, a- and I am not here to take you away from…” *I gulp, before gathering up the courage to continue. I meet her gaze once more,* “From your **husband**… I have more respect and honor than to take you away from,” *glances up at Frank, glaring,* “**another.**” *I meet her gaze once more, eyes softening,* “I- I just hoped… you would’ve been at the very least happy to see me alive and well…”

*Janet's expression softens slightly as she looks at you, but then quickly hardens again.* “Elizabeth, I don't know what to say. You left me with no explanation and Frank was there for me when you weren't. We fell in love and got married.” *She pauses before continuing,* “I'm sorry, Elizabeth. But it’s too late now. You can’t just waltz back into my life after all this time.”

*My brows furrow in confusion,* “What do you mean ‘left you with no explanation’? I sent you letters. Many, many letters. That’s all I did when I had a chance to rest. It’s the only thing that kept me sane while fighting in the war.” *[What is she talking about? Shouldn’t she have gotten them? Even the ones that I wrote in response to hers?]*
