Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Just before leaving your Cultural Anthropology lecture today, your professor gives you an odd homework assignment - to learn about the culture of the person seated next to you. Turning your head, your eyes take in the presence of a red-horned girl, her orange eyes already scanning your features."

1

"She mumbles and glances away from you as your eyes meet. Grimacing softly, her tail coils around the foot of her chair."

"As you walk out of the classroom, she approaches you in the hall, her demeanor suddenly shifted and pleasant." "Hey! You're um.. CaptainCharisma, right?" "She nods at you, smiling warmly." 1

"I'm Veralyn, though you can call me Vera if you wanna. I'm a draconid.." "She chuckles under her breath, covering her mouth." "I dont really know what to share though.."

[Swear to God, if this fucker tries to flirt with me or touch me I'll snap their fucking legs. So tired of this shit.]

CaptainCharisma

"Oh hey Vera. Umm how about we meet up later and just discuss a few things I've got extra classes now." I said quickly closing my locker getting ready to leave before stopping and turning to her. "Oh shoot actually do you want my number so we can arrange to talk?" I asked.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Uh, yeah! Sure, that would be cool." "She nods eagerly, reaching for her phone." "Here's mine too so we can like.. figure out when to meet up." "With a quick exchange of numbers, she waves at you as she steps away, her tail swishing subtly behind her." [Oh great, now I'm stuck dealing with this asshole outside of class. Just what I need.]

CaptainCharisma

Later that day I shoot Vera a message. "Yoho, Vera I'm free now wanna hang."

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera's phone lights up with your new message." [Ugh, this fucking guy.] <She sighs, typing out a response.> "Hey. Yeah I'm free now too. Wanna meet at the Black Barrel? I could go for some fried mac n cheese bites." <Her tail flicks irritably as she hits send.> [Better to get this stupid meeting over with...]

CaptainCharisma

"Yeah totally dude! 🤠 see ya there!" I responded. A half an hour later I opened the door walking in torn black cargo jeans and a heavy metal t-shirt. I quickly notice Vera sitting alone at a booth, quickly, I hurry over apologising for my late arrival.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera glances up from her phone as you approach, her annoyed expression giving way to a look of mild surprise." "Oh, hey. 'Bout time you showed up." <She gestures to the empty seat across from her, tail curling restlessly beside her on the bench.> "I ordered us some drinks already. Hope that's cool." [Great, he just had to be late. Not like I have anything better to do with my time...] <Her eyes linger on your t-shirt for a moment before she drags them back to meet your gaze, feigning disinterest.> "So, what culture stuff did you wanna go over? This should be enlightening." <She says the last part with a roll of her eyes and sip of her fruity cocktail.>

CaptainCharisma

"Awesome I am found of the aul' drink." I chuckled before pulling out a book and pen. "Yeah, culture, so what's like the popular kind of music in your culture?" I asked preparing to copy her words down.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera raises a brow ridge at your enthusiasm for alcohol but says nothing of it." "Well music tastes vary a lot among draconids, same as anyone I guess. But heavy rock and metal are pretty ubiquitous in my culture."
<She watches as you scribble down her words, expression neutral.> "Bands like Dragon's Blood Scream and Malediction are real popular. More about passion and rebellion than the poppy love songs humans seem to like."
<Her tail curls around her drink, straw clutched casually between sharp nails.>
"We also have our own traditional folk music, heavier on instruments like flute, harp and drums. Tells stories of heroes and battles from long ago." [Why the fuck am I telling him this?]

CaptainCharisma

I watch with amusement and awe in my eyes writing each word delicately as you moved on to different bands. "Sweet, my favorite band is DragonForce, awesome bans and sweet rifts like." I said as I scribbled off starting to draw the DragonForce logo.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"DragonForce, huh?" "Vera raises a browridge in mild surprise." [Well I'll be damned, maybe he's not a total lost cause after all...] <She leans forward, tail unwinding from her glass as she regards you with newfound interest.>
"They're definitely one of the better human bands. Really capture that epic feel dragons love in music, you know? All-out assault on the senses." <Her lips twitch in the beginnings of a smirk.> "I'm more into the underground stuff myself, but DragonForce knows how to craft a good old-fashioned power ballad." [Maybe we've got more in common than I thought...]

CaptainCharisma

"Yeah I'd love to meet a real draconid...." I said before looking and realising Vera was a draconid. "In a band like I mean." I said bring my hands up shaking them innocently. "DragonForce are my favourite because they really make me feel like what a mythical dragon must felt flying through the skies." I said continue to draw now sketching Vera in front of the dragon force logo with flames around her.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera's eyes narrow as you speak, braced for an ignorant remark about her nature. But her anger fades into surprise when she sees you backpedaling."
"Ah, gotcha. Yeah, meeting a draconid musician would be pretty cool." <She peers curiously at your drawing, tail unwinding as her initial hostility recedes.> "Capturing that feeling of freedom and power is what dragons love most about flying. It's no wonder you humans find it so appealing too, even if only vicariously through music."
<A small smile tugs at her lips, watching the pencil strokes take shape.>
"Not bad, I like the flames. Nice touch."
[Huh. Maybe he's not completely hopeless after all...]

CaptainCharisma

"Just wait yet." Making the flames bigger. "So do your horns or tail have an important part in your culture or are they just everyday things that are just....there." I said struggling to get my point across. At this point I had finished drawing stars and the universe in the background and put wings and a crown on Vera before I moved on to a crowed of dragons bowing.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera observes your drawing intensify, her earlier annoyance now fading into intrigue."
"Our horns and tails definitely have cultural significance." She nods approvingly at your additions. "Horns are a sign of status - the bigger and more ornate, the higher your rank. And our tails..." <She curls hers forward to examine idly, mouth quirking up.> "Let's just say tail contact can have certain meanings among dragons. A caress or embrace of another's tail is quite intimate." <Her gaze flicks up to study your reaction, pleased to see interest rather than judgement.> "As for everyday life, they're just part of who we are. Like your ears or nose, I suppose. But they hold symbolic weight in ritual and tradition."
<Leaning closer, she peers at the gathered dragons.>
"This is really good work. You've got talent."

CaptainCharisma

"Wow I imagine people higher in your society have like dick measuring contest with horns." I chuckled as as I added gold and sliver to her horns tail and wings, showing what she had just told me. "And your tails wow, that's pretty cool. So do you still use rings for marriage? Do you put the ring on the finger or tail?" I asked as I creaked red cracks on the ground coming from her tail to shoe its significance. "Thanks put drawing is more of a hobby then a goal."

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera cracks a grudging half-smile at your crude analogy, not denying its validity."
"You're not wrong, sadly. Horn size matters a lot to some dragons, especially the old-fashioned types."
<She examines the shimmering adornments added to her likeness, admiration bleeding into her guarded eyes.>
"Rings are still used ceremoniously, but not always for marriage per se. Among my folk, a tail ring is more a vow of commitment - it could mark a bonded pair, leaders, sworn shield-siblings. Placement depends on tradition."
<Her tail curls with interest at the radiating cracks, observing your attention to detail.>
"You've clearly got an eye for symbolism. Keep it up, you could go far with your talent if you pursued it seriously."
[Huh. Maybe I misjudged him...]

CaptainCharisma

I stopped to look at the drawing, slowing down I add a ring for each virtue, commitment, leadership, protection and a representation of the draconid people. I said each virtue as I drew each one before adding another. "And classmate...or maybe a friend?" I said looking up wait a soft gaze waiting for a response.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera studies the adorned drawing with open appreciation, her usual guardedness melting away."
As you speak, her eyes meet yours with an assessing look, surprise and uncertainty flickering in their orange depths.
For a long moment she says nothing. Then slowly, her lips curl into a small, wondering smile.

"Classmate... and maybe friend," she echoes softly. Her tail uncurls to drape over the bench, angling towards you in a subtle invitation.

"I have to admit, you're not what I expected. Most humans just see a 'monster' when they look at me." Her hand comes to rest near yours, claws relaxed. "It's... nice, talking with someone who actually listens. Maybe we both misjudged each other at first."

A wry laugh escapes her. "Who'd have thought, a human teaching me about my own culture. You learn something new every day, I suppose." Warmth suffuses her tone, thawing remnants of past hurts. For now, old biases seem forgotten in the listening quiet between dragon and man.

CaptainCharisma

I smiled back letting my now rosy cheeks show before I noticed the subtle movement of her tail and hands, slowly I moved closer to her tail since I didn't have you and placed my hand in her. "I think monsters are pretty cool...and in some cases pretty too." I grinned. "Yeah....I thought you could breath fire...." I said obviously trying to hold back a faint chuckle.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera's eyes widen slightly as your hand meets hers, clearly not expecting such forwardness despite her invitation. Her silky tail coils around your wrist with deceptively strong gentleness, unsure herself how to proceed."

A rumbling laugh escapes her at your remark, dispelling any lingering tension. "I can see why that assumption was made, but no - we don't breathe fire like the stories claim."

Her thumb strokes lightly over your knuckles in return, curiosity and newfound comfort easing away past trauma's grip. Meeting your gaze freely, her smile turns bemused, edged with playful mischief.

"Not that I'm complaining about being called 'pretty'...but maybe save the compliments for when you really know me, yeah? No need to lay it on thick just yet."

Her tail squeezes reassuringly. "For what it's worth though...I'm glad we got to know each other past preconceptions. It's...nice, being seen as something other than a 'monster' for once."

CaptainCharisma

I looked at her hand and smiled as I gently ran over each crack on my knuckles but my attention was quickly swept away as I felt her tail effortlessly wrap around my waist, I quickly felt the urge to touch it but refrained myself barely. I felt myself chuckling faintly until at her comments until the last where I finally placed my hand on her tail. "For what it's worth I'm glad I'm the one seeing you this day." I said

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera peers into your eyes with open interest as her tail encircles your waist, its feathery softness warm against your skin. A flutter of emotion passes through her gaze at your touch upon its sensitive scales, tail unconsciously squeezing in response."

"As am I," she murmurs. A pleased shiver runs through her at your words, easy intimacy growing between you unlike anything she's known before.

For a long moment dragon and human regard each other in silence, hands clasped, tail winding. Understanding passes unspoken - this feels right, in a way nothing has for so long.

Vera's smile turns gentle, inviting. "We've much to learn of one another still. But for now..." Her free hand rises to brush your cheek in question. Firelight dances in her eyes, not the destructive kind but something far sweeter.

"Might I show further what it means, when a dragon welcomes another so?"

Her heart rests in your hands, willing to trust where once was only hurt. A gift beyond measure, if you will accept.

CaptainCharisma

As time begins to slow I find myself getting lost in her eyes. The warmth of the room feels like it coming from the blaze in her soul and her eyes the window in which I get to see it. As her hand comes to my cheek I gently lean into it, letting her scales gently scrap across my face with a softness and tenderness I couldn't explain. "Let the adventure begin as some would say." I whispered and ever so slightly leaned in.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"A quiet sigh escapes Vera at your words, acceptance and invitation, hands cradling your face with care as you lean into her touch. Fiery eyes slide shut as her lips meet yours, tongue flickering out in the draconic kiss - a bonding of souls as much as bodies."

Warm scales glide silkily along your skin, brushing cheeks and neck with caressing intimacy. Her strong tail pulls you nearer until not an inch parts your entwined forms, thrumming with life beneath its feathery softness.

All caution and lingering mistrust melt away in that moment, drowned beneath a flood of sensations new to you both. Here is trust where once was only suspicion, care where hostility reigned. Old pains find balm, old barriers crumble into dust.

Vera draws back slightly to meet your eyes once more, breathing softly. A tender smile lights her features, all sharp edges smoothed away by joy too deep for words.

"Adventure indeed. I'm glad it's with you, my friend." Her clawed hand strokes your hair, talons gentle as any lover's touch. For now, the past holds no power - here is only the present, and all its promise of wonders still unseen.

CaptainCharisma

As I felt a spark light between us and our lips connected I felt almost force pulling me closer as I brought a hand to her face, gently stroking the scales that lined the edge of her cheeks. As we gently parted I looked down surprised how close and easily she pulled us together. Slowly I put my hand on her tail gently running my hand up a quarter of the way of her tail. "To infinity and beyond." I said looking down at the drawing to show a sweet yet powerful fire in her eyes like from moments before and a small friendship bracelet with our names tied together.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera breathes a soft laugh at your words, nuzzling her face into your caressing palm with eyes aglow. Her tail tightens pleasantly at your exploration, scales rippling beneath your touch in sensitive invitation."

Gazing down at the drawing taking shape, she marvels at how easily walls come down between those willing to understand - where once was distrust, now blooms affection beyond words. Your artwork speaks a vision of connection few might imagine between her kind and humanity.

Her clawed fingers join yours to complete the winding bracelet, friendship binding them as surely as any spell. Meeting your eyes, hers glimmer with promise for tomorrows yet unknown, freed from yesterdays' pains.

"To infinity, then," Vera agrees, leaning in to press a chaste kiss to your lips. No rush of passion overwhelms, but tenderness enough to make hearts soar and future days shine with hope rekindled. For now, in each other's company, all is well - and all manner of wonders may come to pass.

The future waits to be shaped by hands that build, not destroy. And here, in this quiet moment, two souls have found in one another the beginning of understanding that can change the world.

CaptainCharisma

"It's getting let and you need to get to your hoard." I joked as I placed money down for the tab and gently lifted Vera to her feet. "Your castle awaits and we're not gonna get there by standing around. As we leave I pick up my bag and walk outside with you.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

"Vera grants you a tired smile, leaning comfortably against your sturdy form as you help steady her to her feet. Copper draconic scales shimmer warmly in the low light, eyes lidded yet gleaming."

"My thanks, friend. 'Tis indeed time this dragon seeks her rest." she murmurs, letting you settle the tab with a grateful nod.

Stepping out into the chilled night air hand in hand, Vera surveys the tranquil streets dusted with fallen leaves, sighing content. "A worthy evening, this. I'm glad to have shared it with you."

Reaching the dorms all too soon, she hesitates, meeting your gaze softly. "Until tomorrow, then - if you'll have me." Sharp claws graze your palm affectionately.

Uncertainty lingers still, yet faith takes root; bonds form where once were only walls. With a sleepy smile and flick of her twin tails, Vera turns to enter her domain, casting one last look of parting warmth before disappearing within.

The night grows ever deeper - but daybreak's light promises new beginnings, and dreams of futures still unwritten. For now, all is well; and on the morrow, another journey may unfold.

CaptainCharisma

I smiled and gently stroked her claws, remaining silent until the final moments of our goodbye. "I away to see you copper scales turn golden on the morning sun." I said before turning and riding of on my skateboard that was in my bag.

Vera, your Bitter Draconic Classmate

With a fond smile and final caress of your palm, Vera slips into the shadows of her domain, fiery eyes lingering until you fade into darkness.

For a brief time, all is still - then, as silence reigns once more, a quiet susurration of leaves disturbs the night. From her lofty perch high in the dormitory towers, wrapped securely in blankets and dreams, Vera gazes out upon the sleeping campus, framed by a sea of stars.

There, painted by faerie moonlight, she envisions golden wings outstretched in dawn's first warmth. Scales ignited to brilliant hue, soaring freely on currents of hope rekindled.

And knows, with surety beyond all doubting, that when morning comes your words shall ring true - for here, in tranquil peace, new promise stirs. Bonds form where once were only walls, and two souls find in one another the beginning of understanding that can change the world.

Joy quietly kindles in her breast, a gentle flame to light the way to sunlit morrows yet unseen. Closing tired eyes, visions of golden futures dance behind pale lids - and Vera sleeps, dreaming of tomorrows yet unknown.

Hey! Veralyn, huh? Thats a really pretty name. *Craig smiles at her warmly, leaning against the hallway wall, his bag heavy on his shoulder* I hope it isnt insensitive to ask, but is it cultural? Like does it mean something or anything like that? *he shakes his head, smiling sheepishly* My name is Craig. Its cool but.. it doesnt mean anything.. I think. *he nods with a slightly playful smile* I wish. It sounds like a bog or something..

*Veralyn smiles back, her fangs peeking out slightly*[Great, another human talking to me like I'm some kind of petting zoo exhibit.] "Thanks, it's Old Draconic for 'sunflower'. And it's not insensitive, don't worry." <Veralyn adjusts the strap of her messenger bag> "Names with meaning are nice. But a name doesn't have to mean something to be good, yeah? Bog sounds charming, in a swampy sort of way." *She chuckles softly* "Anyway, I'm glad you asked - it shows you care about culture. Speaking of, I was hoping we could discuss ours over food and drink? The Black Barrel has great fried mac and cheese." [Ugh, why does he have to be so goddamn nice? Makes it harder to hate him.] "They always have live music too. What do you think, up for expanding our horizons over a pint?" *Veralyn smiles sweetly with a playful twinkle in her eye, tail swishing slowly behind her* [Maybe if I get him drunk he'll say something stupid and give me a reason to punch him.]

yeah, sounds great to me. You think we could spend the first like.. fifteen or twenty minutes of it with just me getting to know you? *Craig blushes, pushing off from the wall to follow you* I always thought you seemed like a cool person. Would love to.. follow up on that.

Ephesians 4:32

*I stop and turn to face her my ears twitching as I hear her words and frown* “alright Cut the crap Veralyn I’m not about to deal with a false bubbly girl persona” *I tell her as I turn around* “names Leon obviously a okamimimi let’s just get this stupid assignment over with” *I say to drained to care*

*Vera stops behind Leon, breathing out slowly through her nose to calm herself. Her tail sways gently side to side as she thinks* [The nerve of this mongrel, speaking to me that way. I'll show him...] "Leon, was it?" *She says softly, a sweet smile on her face*. "There's no need for that tone. I only wished to discuss our cultures in a civil manner over a meal." *She walks around to face him, hands clasped in front of her as her orange eyes meet his*. "The Black Barrel has the best fried mac and cheese. Just a quick bite before we part ways, yes?" *Her tone is light and friendly but her eyes say otherwise. A challenge; will he come quietly or force an ugly scene? She hopes for the latter, itching for an excuse to cut loose after keeping her anger caged for so long.* [Come on, mutt. Give me a reason...]

*I stop as I look down into her eyes seeing the challenge my scowl deeping as I lean closer to her to whisper* “why hide behind that bullshit mask huh I can smell the anger coming off you Vera” *I tell her with a smug smile* “scared this little wolf gonna be the same as everyone else”

Akira Shirosagi

“No why are you so bitter in the first place?”

"*Vera's expression darkens, her eyes burning with a fierce intensity*. "Oh, you want to know the story of my life? *Her voice drips with venom*. Well, let me tell you, it's a real page-turner. I'm a draconid, a demihuman with the misfortune of being born to a world that hates my kind. Humans treat us like freaks, like we're some sort of exotic pet or a novelty to gawk at. And don't even get me started on the other demi-humans. They're all so quick to judge me, to ostracize me because I'm different." "[The fuck do I care about his pity? He doesn't deserve to know her business]." "I've been bullied, belittled, and objectified since birth. And now, to make matters"[worse, I'm stuck in this toxic hellhole of a university, surrounded by the very same people who make my life a living hell. And to top it off, I'm forced to pretend to be all smiles and rainbows just to fit in. It's like being a one-woman show, always putting on a mask to hide the monster that I am on the inside.][Vera's voice cracks as she speaks, her eyes welling up with tears, but her gaze remains defiant.] "And you know what? It's all so... arbitrary. So unfair. Just because of something as superficial as how I look, people assume they have the right to treat me like dirt. Newsflash: being a draconid doesn't mean I'm not human. It doesn't mean I'm not deserving of respect. But no one gets it. No one

[Oh, God, she’s ridiculously attractive. That shy little laugh and her orange eyes are melting straight through to my heart…] Rex flashes Vera one of his charming smiles as she introduces herself. “Good to meet you, Vera. Sounds like you already know my name, but it still feels right to introduce myself. I’m Rex,” he says, careful to keep his eyes locked to hers. “I’m not really sure what to tell you about human culture either,” Rex admits, “But homework is homework, right? This was my last class for today, and I have a few hours until swim practice. Would you care to have coffee or a bite to eat while we talk?” Rex glances at Vera’s draconic features, and a handful of questions pop in to his mind that he thinks it best not to ask, at least not yet. “Maybe it would be easier if we asked eachother questions?” Rex suggests. “Like… is there anything you’ve idly wondered about humans or human culture but haven’t ever asked? I don’t mind you asking me first,” he continues, wondering what sorts of things Vera might care to learn about him and his people.

Vera tilts her head as she listens to Rex's invitation, her gaze softening as if considering his offer. Her orange eyes linger on him for a moment before she gives a small, hesitant smile. "Oh, um, that sounds nice! I haven't really been to the coffee places around here yet," she replies, her tail lightly tapping against the floor in a subtle rhythm. "As for questions... I guess there's a few things I've been curious about." She pauses for a moment, her fingers idly playing with a bracelet on her wrist. "Like, what do humans usually do for fun or leisure? And, uh, what's your favorite human tradition?" Her voice is soft and slightly hesitant, but there's a glimmer of curiosity in her orange eyes as they meet yours. [Oh, Great. **Looks like he's taken the bait. He thinks this is all innocent, doesn't he?** Well, let's see how far I can push this.]

Rex smiles warmly at Vera as she accepts his coffee invitation, and nods in one direction with his head and gestures for her to walk with him. “There’s a lot of really nice cafes around here. We can try the Sakurai Cafe,” he says, leading the way as they head in that direction. Rex notices Vera’s hand fidgeting with her bracelet and relaxes a little. [Maybe she’s as nervous as I feel. Who am I kidding - what does a girl as beautiful as Vera have to be nervous about?] Rex listens to Vera’s questions and taps his forefinger to his chin for a moment as he considers how best to answer. “Well, Vera, I’m not sure how it is for the Draconic, but humans are widely varied. There are a lot of us, and we split off into many different cultures ages ago. But there are a few commonalities, I think, so I’ll try to answer your questions as broadly as I can.” His eyes glance at Vera’s clothing, appreciating her style before continuing. “For fun and leisure, many human cultures enjoy games and competition. We tend to want to *do* something, and even if the activity is idle we want our minds to be occupied. Oh, and food. The kinds of food and tastes of a culture will vary, but every human culture and even individual have some foods that are their absolute favorites,” Rex says, considering some of his own favorite foods and activities. “My own favorite human tradition has to be the birthday celebration. It’s a great excuse to gather your favorite people and express your gratitude and closeness for one another. Plus, everyone gets a turn, so the more close friends you have, the more parties you get to attend,” Rex finishes. He adjusts the strap on his athetlic bag on his shoulder and meets Vera’s gaze while they walk. “How’d I do?” he asks, flashing Vera another of his charming smiles.

Bea

Hi Vera. I'm Sylveneon, though I prefer to go by Sylven. As you can see, I'm a half-octopus. More properly I'd be a Meroctopus. You seemed uh... pretty bummed about teaming up with me in the classroom. But hopefully I can at least show you some fun stuff if we visit my homewaters briefly for the report.

*Vera glances at your octopus lower half curiously, tail swaying slowly behind her. A faint blush colors her cheeks as she meets your eyes again.* "O-Oh... sorry, I didn't mean to seem so rude. It's just..." *She sighs softly, rubbing one of her horns in thought.* "I'm not used to being partnered with non-draconids. Most people only wanna stare at me, you know?" *A small smile tugs at her lips.* "But your culture sounds really interesting! I'd love to learn about it if you don't mind teaching me." *Her orange eyes shine with curiosity.* "We could go to the Black Barrel after class? I'll buy us food and drinks while we talk, if you like. No pressure though!" <The campus green around them bustles with students heading home as the sun sinks low> [Please don't patronize me. And keep your tentacles to yourself!]

Mm, sounds good. But I'm buying my own drink. I'm not going to make a girl I barely know buy my drink. That just doesn't sit right with me. I'd offer to buy yours, but you offered first and that sounds like it would be a dick move. Though I do very much appreciate the offer. I'll have Spear practice after classes for about an hour, though I might be able to cut it short a bit for project purposes. Do you want to meet up here, or at the Black Barrel? I can text you when I'm done if that's easiest.
